It won’t.

Teams will just outbid each other until market value or the Canucks will just hold him. Teams are there to make their team better, not anyone else.

If the rift lowered Miller’s value to the point a team offers a first round pick, do we really think no other team goes first + prospect and so on until he’s at atleast fair market?

Worse case, Canucks keep their playoff beast. Winning cures all.

The two teams probably want to swap JT and Mika for a change of scenery but the NMC is preventing that. No other deal really makes sense, like you say.

If you had to choose would you rather trade Miller for Zib or just have Miller disappear for nothing?

I've only seen the Rangers twice this year but nothing seems like a better return than Zib. Which to me indicates this trade isn't happening.

JT Miller is a #1 Center and has 24 points in 26 games in a drama filled season.
He is also the second best player on this team, has been a force for us in the past 3 years and the Canucks do not have to trade him.

They're both impediments as the NMC really leads into the Salary being an issue.

There are teams that can fit him in with out sending anything (or much) back.

Those teams are almost across the board bad teams. We're talking about CBJ/CHI/SJS's of the world.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but he isn't going to waive to go to those teams.

Better teams are pretty capped out and aren't going to move heaven and earth to add this player. Not now at least.

Columbus is two points out of a playoff spot.

Are we considering the Rangers a team he would consider waiving his NMC to go to? Because the Ducks, Jackets and Flames have more points than the Rangers and could easily handle the contract. If taking contracts back is part of the math, then you can add the Wings, Habs, Kraken, Utah, Flyers, Bruins, Jets, etc. to the list. And I won't ever count Vegas out of acquiring any player because they always seem to be in it even when it doesn't seem like they should be.

We don't know what his considerations for where he'd waive his NMC would be, but either way it seems like that is way more important a consideration. You take his NMC out and you can see him going to half the league. Keep it but cut his salary in half but still assume a small pool of teams he'd consider and it would still be hard to make a trade.

I'm a neutral fan, no ties to NYR or VAN. I hold no ill will for them. But these 2 teams seem to be on the very edge of imploding right now, and it's a pretty gripping storyline to follow.

Would be pretty cool to see both teams make a blockbuster trade with each other and see if either one can right the ship.

And your GM is on record saying that he'd consider trading Pettersson and Pettersson needs to play better, but I bet you wouldn't characterize that as the Canucks being "desperate" to get rid of Pettersson.

Say what you will about potential locker room issues, people in this thread are talking like Drury is crazy to go after Miller. The guy has been an elite player for the last half decade. The only real concern is his age but you've got to think the Rangers are in win now mode, despite the bad year.

Are the two the same? No, Pettersson's on pace for like 67 points while Zibanejad is on pace for like 48 points, Zibanejad has definitely been worse. But I don't feel like consistent arguments are being made for the two players, it seems like Zibanejad's season is being way overblown while Pettersson's poor season is being way understated.

Like Canuck LB above said that Zibanejad's contract is a negative while he also suggested Pettersson to Buffalo for Dahlin in the Pettersson thread.

How is it possible that you can (sensibly) raise the consideration of cap constraints in the first part of your sentence and then immediately turn around and propose a trade where the Canucks ship out 8M and then take back 12M+?

As others have said, we aren’t going to be paying like 450 million on the cap for three centers that are born in 1993 (now into their 30’s), so most likely any Miller deal would have to include Zibanejad.

It’s possible Trocheck instead, but I think he’s close to the bottom of list of players Drury would trade.

Come up with an offseason plan instead.
