We've had this with Ryp (RIP) and Darryl Stanley in the past. We now know what happened to Rick and with Stanley he came back pretty successfully until he severed a tendon in his finger and had to retire (I remember the old Dan Gallagher show where Tiger Williams was asked about Stanley taking a year off and he said unequivocally he would have fired him. Pat Quinn was manager then). Also Tim Thomas who I think still hasn't recovered.
We all know what an intense guy JT is and I've seen him go off on Tocc and Hughes (in a good way) saying what needs to be done. In the case of Hughes he was screaming about how he wanted to direct play and where he wanted him after a face off. Quinn nodded his head, said okay, skated where he told him to, then when JT was turned around to do the faceoff, Hughes skated back to his correct position. There's a great deal of patience going on with JT.
It's still shocking the team chose him over Bo and I am still convinced it was the right move. JT could be like Crawford when he coached which dramatically put the motivation in Naslund and saved his career (only JT can score). Bo is a guy that was overly motivated (like Lou) and put too much on himself.

More speculation by Strickland that the team was the one that asked him to step away from the team
Hopefully JT (and Demko) comes back on Dec 6th, Stone Cold style (beer truck and all), and we can end all this stupid speculation once and for all.

He's going to turn heel by attacking Demko with a steel chair and then proceed to shake hands with Mark Messier at center ice in front of distraught fans.
Did Mahovlich wear an A that season? I was a Toronto kid and don't remember him serving as an assistant captain on the Leafs.

Hopefully, he rejoins the team soon after they return from the road trip, I'm optimistic he comes back and ends up having a stellar rest of the season.

wherever this situation goes from here, it's going to be fascinating. If the team gets through it intact, gels, fully buys into playing the way Kojak wants them to play and then gets healthy......look TF out.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Miller said or did something to Pettersson that the club felt crossed the line. A lot of us fans have been losing our minds with Pettersson and his level of play. Imagine how somebody like Miller views Pettersson.

I feel that it’s something like this + injuries that made him hard to be around and he has enough self awareness to step away.
Imagine playing your heart out and the wear and tear on your body and watching twinkle toes face plant throughout the playoffs.
What the fans love about Miller is his passion for the game; his raging against losses; and his willingness to do whatever it takes to set an example physically and verbally to rally his team.
But we aren't in the dressing room. Maybe it's an act that's wearing thin with his team-mates? Obviously we'll never know for sure......but wouldn't come as a complete shock if we eventually learn that it was the team that asked him to step away from it for a few weeks.

Mahovlich played for the Leafs for a decade and led them in scoring 4 times, the 1961, 2, 3 and 5 seasons. He led the Leafs in goal scoring six times in a row, 1961 through 1966, though in the year you mentioned earlier, 1964-65, rookie Ron Ellis tied him for the goal scoring lead.
