Could be as @Wisp mentioned maybe he doesn’t fit certain nhl protocols? Or there is just our management team seems to be bad at dealing with this type of thing.
Management also seems to refuse to acknowledge Pettersson is/was hurt, even when he said so himself. It wouldn’t be that surprising that they are alluding to some level of misdirection on this either.

He should have been on IR far earlier. Playing through significant injuries outside of the playoffs is stupid. Give me healthy JT for 75% of the season instead of crappy JT for the entire season and playoffs.

There were some completely unsubstantiated rumours on reddit about the nature of his injuries and if true, every single person involved in letting him keep playing instead of resting him should be fired, and I don't care how high that goes. Enough is enough.

Hopefully it is completely unrelated to his obvious injuries and it's a temporary setback... but that definitely is not what it looks like right now.

Is it weird that even with Miller and Boeser out and no injuries to the defense, I'm still more concerned/pessimistic due solely to the defense?

It's still possible to ice three very strong lines + a 4th line with Hoglander on it, but you're not getting anywhere if you're not able to outscore that disaster of a bottom four D

Exactly. If the Leafs can still win without Matthews; and the Oilers hold their own without McDavid, then the Canucks should be able to survive the loss of Miller and hopefully only a few more weeks without Boeser.

But not with this blueline.

Social media really changed people,
or maybe revealed them for who they are.
I think we are social creatures.

But the social instincts (for lack of a better word) naturally selected for dont work AT ALL when you have the anonymity of masses and avatars and nick names.

In a tribal ~10-50 people society NOBODY would act the way they act on social media. That is where natural selection did its work.

The anonymity doesn't matter. People use their real names on facebook and the comments there are as vile as elsewhere. Maybe you're getting more at that you'll never really interact with online commenters elsewhere in the real world, so there aren't really any negative consequences for being a dick.

Social media rewards shock value with likes/clicks. Being nasty gets those, mostly from "your tribe". Which then incentivizes other members in your tribe to do the same thing. Which causes the "other tribe" to react in kind.

Social media has ruined the world
It's a remarkably terrible invention. Far, far more social harm than utility.

Social media has ruined the world

History repeats itself. Every time a new communications medium takes over, it has been co-opted by disinformation spreaders as well as revolutionaries.

In the mid 1800s it was the "wide awakes" revolution driven by the literacy boom and the printing press - hordes of people literally threw printing presses into rivers from authors they hated. This led to Lincoln's rise and the civil war.

In the early 1900s it was radio and later, TV fueling nationalism and two world wars.

Today it's the Internet and especially social media driving disinformation, manipulation and polarization.

It's not a good look if history is any guide.

Its not the same. You are hidden, possibly 1000s of miles away.

Its definitely anonymity still.

Not just that.

You dont feel the same kind of empathy because they are typing at a screen.

If you said these things and saw someone change their facial expressions in real time as they go through the negative emotions you are causing.... and able to post the vile shit, you are probably someone that should be watched very carefully.

Strangely, we can incessantly personally attack hockey people - fat moron, dim Jim or whatever, but can’t suggest what the problem might be with a player on personal leave.
I don't think it's strange at all. It's one thing to criticize someone's capability to play or manage at an NHL level, it's another one entirely to speculate on their health or personal life.

I really don't think the anonymity is a factor. Like I said, people say vile stuff on Facebook, and for most people, that is their real name/identity. Hell, some of the worst posters/takists on Twitter use their real names. I think using their real names actually might drive even worse commentary - related to my point about social media incentives, it gives them more notoriety and drives their following. More attention.

Yep.

I think this point is more or less related to my point about a lack of "consequences" for not ever really interacting with the person.

Life happens and everyone may need to take time off work or hobbies to re set. I predict we will see the best version of JT when he’s back.
I was wondering this myself. It's kind of unintended load management with JT and Demko.

By all the reporting it seems that Demko has been close and able to workout for several weeks now. When he comes back fully healthy he can get his 30-40 games in and be peaking at playoff time and have a lot of gas left in the tank. Will the same be said about JT when all is said and done? We'll see.

Petterson has been playing though it all, while being called a baby by Miller and getting way more pressure in the media.

I really doubt that it's that
