The offers won't be any better later IMO, and they need to be rid of this story ASAP. Take what you can get and move on.

Seems very shortsighted. Why do we have to be rid of the story now ? If shit is coming back for him the season is lost anyway.

The other team's leverage will be the same in the summer. Everyone knows the situation. The teams who want him, will want him for this playoff run (he's getting old too) and our owner is not going to let management flush another season down the toilet (Francesco does like that playoff revenue).

And also, this shit isn't new, these guys have been at odds for years. If anything, they've haven't acted soon enough.

Weighing the pros and cons of trading Miller:

1. Con: losing the best forward for this club over the last 5 years. Without an equivalent replacement, the team will be less competitive in the short term. When your best player in the deal is going out the door, you're going to lose the deal in the short term.

2. Pro: Opportunity to get younger. As much as Miller has done for this team he's on the down slope. At 32 (in March) he has already out performed his age. Particularly because of the physical way he plays, he will very likely be a 3rd or 4th line player in two years.

3. Pro: Selling while there's still value. This can't be understated. If a team is going to have sustained success, they need to get value out of aging assets. The remaining core is in their mid 20s. Now is the time to start filling in the line-up that is coming after that core.

4. Pro: Opportunity to address biggest need. The team needs one and arguably two more top 4 D if they think they are going to be cup contenders during Hughes' peak years.

5. Pro: Dressing room harmony. I'll just leave it there. I'm not sure how much of this is real or media hype to get clicks.

As much as I like Miller, the pros do outweigh the cons.

Leverage is irrelevant to desire. Sometimes you need to wait it out, like the Duchene deal. You don’t take a shit deal just to get rid of him. That’s absurd

They have waited it out, they almost traded him before (probably for the same reasons). I also don’t think they'll take "a shit deal", and that if they don’t like the returns I think they will wait. I just don’t think you're going to get more later, we disagree on that which is fine.

Some of your pros are only potential opportunities. That is, IF they work out, which is not a guarantee.

Add to this his NMC being a spanner in the works of any potential deals, too.

He has the 44th highest cap hit among forwards and is 53rd among forwards in points per game (min 25 games). He hasn’t been so far off his value this year that it negates being a bargain last year.
Last year does not matter. I'm referring to his production this year.

Seems like nobody is thinking about what happens if you trade Miller and Pettersson still underperforms.

Everyone seems to be convinced that Miller is the reason that Pettersson is playing poorly.

I think a lot of people are going to be in for a rude awakening if Miller does get traded.

Maybe people are thinking about petey being 1.5 points a game during Miller's 10 game reset

Pettersson probably will get healthy and back to being a 85-100 pt player but what i would be more concerned about is a C depth
of....

Or with Drouin holding out on Yzerman, only to be waited out, come back, and then traded on Yzerman's timeline.

I do think that the Horvat precedent will temper any return Miller receives. Other teams will use it as a template.

If that trade offer was true I think it would have been done by now. It sounds like the actual trade offer was Chytl, Lindgren, and a conditional 1, and the trade fell through based on the conditions.
If that was the deal that we were close to executing then 🤮

have zero interest in Silayev...I think he's overrated because of his height. Nemec and Mercer would be the package I'd look for from New Jersey. Nemec is offensively gifted and that's exactly what this team needs.

That's fair. I was just thinking more long term if Willander pans out. Nemec would be a huge get and can step in now.

At this point there is no way out. Miller is gone 100%. It doesnt matter about Pettersson at this point. You just have to move on. The drama is getting out of hand at this point and no one can focus.

There are issues with either result. If Pettersson's play continues to trend downward, even after Miller is traded, this team is in a world of hurt and the pressure to perform will get perpetually worse. But if Pettersson magically rebounds the moment that Miller leaves town, it will lead to the conclusion that Pettersson let the issues with Miller drastically affect his play. That's not a good look for a team leader. Probably the most favorable outcome is this is all related to injury and that it eventually heals.

All I know is the whole thing sucks, especially after such a promising season last year.

Pettersson is also playing through a knee injury.

Uh no.

He's 32 with an $8M cap hit, and has not played up to the level of his contract. He's a cancer in the locker room, and if the Canucks can get anything good for him they should absolutely pull the trigger. If they can't, well even just cutting their losses and clearing that cap space would be a win.

JT Miller was a beast for us in the playoffs, a big reason we took the Oilers to game 7 of the second round. 8M is a steal for what he brings come April. Our other star centre was an absolute ghost in the playoffs, we were fortunate to have Lindholm slot in for Petey. Losing Miller would be a HUGE hole to fill.

A big reason why we made it to the 2nd round was Silovs and Colton Sissons missing an empty net in the last 2 minutes of game 4 when the score was 3-2 for Nashville. That happened becasue Skinny Pete hustled back and pressured him unlike Miller who would have given up on a play like that. Sissons scores there the series is 2-2 and they have all the momentum. Instead, he missed and we made an epic comeback. That was the turning point of the series.
