Letting Tanev go was a popular move on this sub? Lol, Benning got cooked for doing it. Wild statement.

It's an interesting thing to me that while Pettersson has conveyed to management that he wants to stay, Miller has not (per Friedman). Easy thing to do. Just go to management and say you'll fall in line. Continue to push in the same direction. Instead, we hear about him and his agent talking with other teams...

He doesn't want to be here.
Just watched his post game said he wants to be a Canuck. I've seen him out and about in westvan and I know his wife and kids absolutely love it here as well

so what is the move here... trade or wait for more suitors.. offseason would be the logical choice IMO. or else its gonna be like luongo/schiender 2.0 trade the wrong guuy aka petterson if it goes that way and vancouver keeps miller.

A lot of those posts were used to spread the word of how important Tanev was to this team, while many saw him as an aging, injury prone, 1 dimensional player.

Sure Benning got heat, after the fact, and increasingly more as it aged poorer and poorer. In the seasons prior though... the idea of a Tanev extension was met with plenty of daggers.

As far as JT goes, he chose to stay, for a $ and term that a team in his home country could have matched or beat. He negotiated the right to choose his destination should he want to leave, or be asked to. Until that time, if it ever comes, he's ours.

He chose to stay and now he's talking to other teams. Seems like he wants to leave... This all goes to bed if he requests/states that he wants to stay. Seems simple enough, and yet the rumours persist...?

If you want more posts about HFVAN being high on Tanev, I can dig them up for you. Sure, people can be critical of a player, any player, but most thought Benning bungled the cap and Tanev should have been brought back. There media clips to this effect even now about it. (Dhali said this last year iirc)

Edit: "I'm planning on being a Canuck today and tomorrow" is a lot different than saying "I want to be a Canuck long-term/I'm not going anywhere".

Say it to management. Tell them you don't want to take any more calls from other teams.

The only thing preventing Miller from staying is Miller, as far as I see.

As I lay here unable to sleep pissed off we might be trading miller I went through the box score it was just crazy seeing how many faceoffs JT won tonight mostly against mcdavid and drai then got me thinking I wonder who is the best in the league at faceoffs..

Out of the top 25 in the league he's in 24th in overall wins. 356 out of 607 58.6% which actually puts him in 3rd in the entire league. Only Horvat (59.1) and his good buddy Trocheck (60.5) are better right now.

The Canuck management would be crazy to trade Miller. He is their best player and leader. They need to make him happy here, not kick him to the curb. I can't believe the bs I am hearing about moving him. It is a long season, lots of time for the team to find ways to solve its problems and Miller is not the problem.

Nah.

They cant put a player ahead of the teams best interest.

He looks like a leader when things are easy and he looks like a black hole when things are hard.

Miller obviously has an injury. He almost certainly sustained it in the Montreal game. When asked about it he didn’t even really just deny the injury, he kind of just acknowledged to Patterson that he wouldn’t discuss it which is something Patterson prepacked in his question.

And yes, Tocchet said he wasn’t injured. Which is standard hockey business and isn’t evidence of some mismanagement. Teams don’t want other teams a to know their players are playing through injuries. It isn’t rocket science.

Ya, I think you are right. But you still don’t make it easy. Why disclose information that allows the other team to target an injured player? That would be stupid, and again, management not doing so isn’t some sign of incompetence.

Even when he's a black hole he's still one of their best players. I know his defensive play has been inconsistent, but 1) it's elite when he cares and 2) even when he doesn't care and doesn't play defense he's STILL one of their better players. Can't say that about any other forward on team. And oh yeah, when he's at his best he's a top 5 forward in the league. Below McDavid, MacKinnon, Draisaitl and Kucherov, but he's better than Eichel, better than Barkov, better than Matthews by a mile.

Hughes doesn't seem to have any problem playing fantastic with Miller on the team. Whoever isn't playing great, that's their problem, not Miller's.

That said, age and asset management are factors - so if you can get a great deal for him, given the fact that the rest of the team isn't playing like a contender, like with any player, trade has to be considered.

We just disagree on how bad he is when he is bad.

Also you value his defense when hes motivated far far higher than I do.
