Player Discussion JT Miller Thread

Didnt really get to see if Miller had any gas in the tank in OT but he looked good on the PP late in the third. His main issue has been he fades as games go (which is why I keep mentioning conditioning being a likely issue), so seems like thats getting better. Body language still is meh, but no one should be complaining after a 4 point night from him.

Hope to see him continue to play hard and produce and cover his defensive assignments consistently. Still hard against trading him or Petey though.
 
He’s now 2nd in team scoring and PPG for the season.

Pretty solid good for missing 10 games.

Hopefully this gets him going. Must’ve felt nice to see those goals go in.
 
Since joining the team, JT has alternated new career highs, with seasons that are pretty flat in the 1st half, then a resurgence in the 2nd.

Stay tuned for more Miller Time.

Its not about production for me. Hes a guy that used to be wildly inconsistent with his effort level. He obviously cared but he would just give up on plays or late in games, would be mopey and not do his line changes etc. That changed with Tocchet where he became an EVERY GAME, EVERY SHIFT reliable guy. This year hes been back to moping and giving up at random times, especially late in games and that cant continue. Even if he produces he cant be doing that, no excuses.

Today he was looking mostly like himself from last season, saw him actually take defensive assignments in the third, got in lanes etc. Been hoping that him giving up on plays had to do with getting gassed and not mentality etc, so maybe we are about to see him back now that his conditioning caught up? One can hope.

But it didn't change with Tocchet, as we are seeing the same pattern play out. Beast mode for a season, then a rather disengaged, while still productive half season, and back to beast mode.

A lot of people seem to misremember the 21-22 season. Which in many ways, was Millers best. The Boudreau year wasn't some pond hockey team like it was early 22-23. That was a team that won a lot of close games. They relied on goaltending making big saves, but had a great counter, and were overall stingy. JT wasn't some cherry picker, he was great all around. Didn't matter that his linemates, or the team as a whole wasn't scoring. He had a McDavidesque highlight reel package that year, and a lot of them came against good players/teams, at key moments. Every win mattered, as they stayed in race until pretty deep in the season.

I get it's frustrating at times watching him play so lax, but its always been a give and take. If he was any more consistently great, he'd be knocking on the Mackinnon and Drai tier. He was brought in relatively cheap, as a supplement to the young core, and ended up being our best forward, and even player some years.

I've sort of resigned myself to the likelihood of Miller being traded. But if they do trade him, it probably means they're writing off the season.

Because I just don't see how they could ever get anything back of comparable value.....likely second or even third liners; picks or prospects......nothing that's likely going to help them win 'today'.
 
Someone in the locker room should bully JT - excuse me, hold JT accountable - to get him to be consistent.

I recommend Petey do it.

*and by sense I mean in opposite world. Here in the real world it is totally moronic, and a massive failure on the part of management and coaching staff. Their incompetence in this matter has put the lockerroim leadership group in an untenable situation. Management and coaching need to own up that they completely effed up the situation. I know, this should be in the other thread. Sue me.

I've contacted my lawyer

Insider alert: Was able to ascertain this re enactment of what went down.

A brief summary: Patrick Allvin is Ted Striker who is able to keep the Canucks from crashing into a mountain. Jim Benning (not seen in the video) is played by a large inflatable doll. The lady "needing to get outta here" is Elias Pettersson and JT MIller is played by the guy with a large wrench in his hand.
Clearly he went too far.....but at least he was able to shut Pettersson up before Nana Aquilini finished him off with the pistol.

 
Would it be completely unfair to compare Miller to Blake Wheeler?

At their best, fantastic players on the ice, horrific team mates in the locker room?
 
JT Miler has the NMC,where might he want to go?

To a team on the cusp of a cup run if he can be made to fit under the cap?
To another team on the upside, improving, filled with younger players?
Close to his home or birthplace, Columbus, Pittsburgh?
A team where he doesn't have to be "the Man".
A team with a lot less media intensity?
Maybe a team where his presence could be seen as the turning point.
A team with better taxes
A city his family likes or prefers.

Certainly back east though.

I think the only teams that would fit that bill is

Canes
Devils
Panthers
Lightning
Caps
Bruins


I doubt he will want to go to a non contending team so late in his career.

How many of those teams can even fit Miller under the cap?
 
It kind of looks like Miller is playing like he expects to be traded. I don't think he wants to go, this is a hockey mad market where he has excelled and been appreciated with fans chanting his name, but there's almost a resignation in his play.
