Well the question posed was, if Miller sticks and Kreider plays like he did in the playoffs.

Unless you play Miller on the third line and Boyle on the 4th, not sure how else to accomodate this.

Its certainly an interesting scenario. I find it difficult to believe that Tortorella is going to allow Kreider and Miller to be in the lineup together for any extended period of time unless they set the world on fire with their performance.

Theres several reasons I think thatll be the case but the top 2 are:

1. Tortorella is HUGE on the process of developing a young player. That process doesnt include bringing up a teenager and trying to find sporadic bottom 6 minutes for him.

2. I dont think Tortorella will be willing to stray too far away from his formula of minutes. I know that 80% of this board wants Boyle on the 4th line, but that would cut his minutes -- and I think Torts likes Boyle's even strength defensive prowess too much to do that. Boyle's minutes would likely come at the expense of a younger player and that makes no sense.

so at newyorkrangers.com Kreider is not on the roster. Is he sent down or is Cally on the IR with Kreider rehabbing in NY?

I dont see Mashinter staying for long but hey maybe he proves me long

I imagine they use Mashinter, Ferrerio as the main call ups. Wont see Newbury or Segal for a while.

Miller will be really interesting to watch

Interesting moves. Personally, I think Ferriero had far more of an impact on the game than Asham. I'd rather have Asham scratched unless it's a particularly feisty opponent and have Ferriero's speed in the bottom 6.

Aside from that, these are exciting moves. Mash will probably stay up as the new Rupp. Miller is probably up to get a taste and help the coaches evaluate where his game is at. You never know how a player with upside will respond to their first taste of the NHL though - maybe he'll end up being one of those guys who plays best at the highest level. We shall see.

I think these moves and the trade for Powe will do wonders for the bottom 6, but I'd expect Ferriero to be in instead of Asham once everyone gets their look.

Call me an alarmist if you must, but is this really the best time to be giving Miller a "look" when we're playing .500 hockey and we have games against the Isles and Debbies coming up? We really could benefit from having Ferriero's speed right now.

Or we could benefit from Miller's grit and compete level. It's not some earth shattering move to have miller called up and ferriero sent down. It's bottom 6 minutes and more likely 4th line type minutes.

But seriously the way some of you talk about Ferriero on here you would think he provides the same game Brandon Prust does.

Good introduction for Miller to the NHL with rivalry games against the devils and isles.
This is a move to shore up the bottom 6 while Cally and Kreider are out.
I assume he will be sent down when Cally is back.

I want to add something else, Torts said Kreider is not guaranteed a spot when he is healthy again. Not sure who it was meant for, to motivate Kreider or Miller?

If mashinter is sent down that means more playing time for Bickel. No Bickel and no mashinter means no fighters. Well I suppose asham. But he isn't so big.

I don't think it ever mattered how Miller was playing in CT this year. I believe this was in the plans all along. I think the same thing is probably true of McIlrath, at some point. This is a development call up that could turn into more, but probably won't.

Mashinter is a "meh" to me. I'm not enthused or dismayed. I have to see him play before I decide.

I did like Ferriero's game, but it was mostly the hustle and skating. If Powe does that, then no Ferriero is okay with me.

i will want to punch Torts in the face if he plays Bickel on D ahead of Gilroy next game. Gilroy has not been bad so just stick with him. They dont need a freaking tough guy out there all the time.

Mashinter and Asham are guaranteed to fight vs the Devils and Isles though. Drives me crazy but its gonna happen. Not that I dont like fights I just think the more talented player should be dressed

Now that they have options in the AHL like Palmieri and Ferrerio we wont see Bickel upfront

Just saying. You have to likely keep one ready to play or dressed for games. Doubt you'd ever see both Bickel and mash on the whale

Nooooooooooo!!!! Miller isn't ready!!!!!! We're gonna totally runi hi...

...Oh, wait, no we're not. If he proves inadequate he's back down with 5 games. Pretty sure 1-5 games with carefully given minutes in the NHL never destroyed anyone's career or development. I mean seriously, a top prospect gets a look for a few games. Whoopdeedoo!! Is it really cause for such objection? Ummm, nope. Worst case, he's sent back and knows just a bit more clearly how hard he needs to work to reach the next level. Best case? He becomes this season's Hagelin, or whatever, who cares. The point is, there is only really upside or noside to this, so quit yer whinin and enjoy tomorrow's game!!!

Yeah I think Miller is the type of player that will be just fine if he's asked to play gritty checking game. If he's able to put up points, all the better.

Personally, I don't think Ferriero provides a Prust game at all, I just think that he brings extra speed and hustle that Asham in particular doesn't, and I think this team needs as many quick legs in the bottom six as possible right now. Having Asham instead of Ferriero isn't a huge deal, I'd just personally prefer the quicker guy of the two with the way this team has been dragging their feet so far.

Nothing wrong with giving Miller a handfull of games to see where he's at.

I think I would have kept Ferreiro up over Bickel, having thought about it. We have 7 defensemen, Ferreiro is better than Bickel at wing.

Seems like some nice moves for NYR. I don't know much about Mashinter, but from reading on here, seems like he can atleast bring what Rupp brought, at a much cheaper price.

I remember noticing Powe in our games with Flyers, he will be a nice energy guy for our bottom 6. And our PK could sure use some help, so it looks like a solid move.

I don't get to watch the Whale games, just go by what I read on here and checking box scores...Didn't think and didn't want to see Miller this early, but I said the same thing about Hagelin and I was way off on that one. So here is to hoping Miller does something to stick with the team, but I expect him to be sent back in a handful of games.

Ferriero being sent down suprised me, thought he was playing his role well with us.

If these callups work, boyle will be dealt for a d-man. Halpern is a better player than Boyle and boyle's value is too high for his abilities. Sell high.

Ferriero being sent down was an inevitability I think. He could have held on to over 2 dozen games before that happened though. The intention from MGMT was never to keep him there for extended periods of time unless he was playing like an all star.

We will want to go into the playoffs with a consistent, cohesive bottom six. Grinders become doubly important in the postseason, especially come overtime.

I think it's great that at the very least, the team is evaluating its options.

Who knows if either will stick but it certainly can't hurt. Ferriero's play dropped off a good bit the last 2 games.
