NYR Recall JT Miller, Mashinter. Ferriero Sent Down to CT

@KatieStrangESPN
#NYR A couple of additional roster moves for Rangers: JT Miller and Brandon Mashinter recalled, Ferriero assigned to CT

Well, here we go. Roster shakeup underway. Torts is mixing them bottom 6, gonna find some good combos hopefully! :handclap:

I see no need to rush JT like this. A poor decision IMHO. I haven't watched him in CT to be clear so my opinion is a little misguided. I think it would be unwise to burn his first year.

But, if he's a better option, then he's a better option.

EDIT - It's not on the AHL Transactions page yet. Things are usually broken there before the beat writers get to it. Not saying Katie is wrong, because she's usually spot on, but it's an odd thing.

EDIT 2 - Just got put on

With what we had/have, I don't think this is bad at all, unless Miller starts skating in circles and he hits himself in the head with the stick when taking a shot.

Like Mashinter being brought up. Miller, on the other hand, I don't really get. The kid looks out matched in Hartford. Maybe it's just to get his head right with a cup of coffee?

Well, if there was ever a time to give Miller a look, this is it. Very interesting day so far.

I liked Ferriero. Hopefully this means that Stu Pickles is in the press box. JT is 19, but the Devils gave Matteau a try for 5 games this season, and he's a year younger. Although I don't think they're playing him and have yet to send him back to juniors.

He's a man. This is hockey. No time for weakness from management.

He's young, He's hungry, He's ready.

Who the hell sits? I like the Mashinter call-up. Maybe Torts will use this as a try-out for that open spot? Give both players some practices and games and see who fits the role best?

I am not going to lie, excited to see them both.

Interested to get a look at Mashinter - I think he really could fill a bottom 6 role.

Hate the JT Miller call-up - unless its just a cup of coffee until Kreider comes back. He needs time to develop down on the farm.

I like the idea of giving the kid an idea what it's like to be with the big club at the practice facility and at MSG. Doesn't mean he has to play, but it gives him more to play for if/when he's sent back to the Whale.

JT Miller will likely only get 5 games cup o coffee, unless Stepan is traded for D upgrade.

Gee, and SO SO SO MANY GUYS said there was NO POSSIBLE WAY he could be ready yet, even if it was not to finish, but just to skate fast and set up Ws.

I take my lumps so when I get it right despite all the calls to the contrary, I am within rights to say I'm vindicated. They would not bring him up and slow his development unless they either wanted to use him, or showcase him. Even if they just wanted to give him a taste to encourage him further, they wouldn't do that if playing him was a liability.

Perhaps they both play and Powe gets an extra game to rest and practice with the team? Then Mashinter or Miller go back down?

Cup of coffee for Miller, do not see him playing, but he will benefit from seeing how the big club prepares for a big divisional game.

I have no problems with a spot call up here and there.

Russing him, IMHO, is calling him up, putting him on the 2nd line and leaving him there.

I'd venture a guess he's on an auditing trip

He's playing on the AHL team, so his 1st year is already burned.

Edit- I am wrong, see a couple posts below me. He can play in up to 5 games without starting up his contract due to age.
