I'm really worried about this kid's shoulder.

He should have had surgery 11 months ago. That whole waiting and trying again thing last year was a massive f***up, IMO.

Does anybody really think his shoulder isn't going to explode within the first 10 games of the season?
I felt the same about Pinto last year and that went okay, but yes, definitely worried at this point. Two surgeries in two years and now a setback at the end of a long summer of rehab is not a good sign. This isn't hopscotch and tic-tac-toe they're playing, so there's no in between with that shoulder.

Which he would have had if he'd had surgery right away.

Not doing that was a terrible decision.
It seems to be in hindsight, but wasn't it also his call or was that never confirmed? I thought he was the one that wanted to avoid another surgery but could be wrong.

Don't know who made the ultimate call. Whoever it was was wrong. And I said this at the time. No hindsight here.

If I'm the Sens I flat out tell him he's shut down by Dec. 15 last year. We were done. He was done. Get better for next (this) year.

And now here we are. Awesome player who we might not have.

Ya that's fair. I said hindsight, but I do recall a lot of the dialogue at the time was debating that. I was just meaning that it also could have gone fine with the route they did go, but given the setback, we know now that obviously isn't the case and it's not fine. I don't know that you can force surgery on him if he was wanting to rehab, but that may not have been the case and the whole exercise of him coming back and getting injured again immediately was a bit of a farce.

Not ideal having the 2C and 3C miss most of training camp and exhibition games when looking to come out of the gates hot.
Both Cs would likely have new wingers with very little time to establish any chemistry or learn each others tendencies.
Absolutely ridiculous. This is why we need someone new overseeing and making important decisions

I think this will be a small blip in his long, successful career.

I guess I'm an optimist.
Maybe but he’s already 24 now.

I am ok with Sens taking their entire efforts to ensure his shoulder is completely back to normal entering year 2 of his 8 year extension.

Pivotal piece in any contention window we hope to have in next couple years.

Thank God for Pinto, though.

Look at the Eichel situation in Buffalo

My understanding is the team can't force the player to have this surgery or that. Norris consulted a lot of doctors and made a decision to go the rehab route.

I'm not a doctor. Who knows. Maybe the best docs told him it was 50/50 that rehab works out.

Ya, my understanding is the team can't force a guy to have surgery, pretty sure that wouldn't fly from a legal perspective anyways.

With the benefit of hindsight, surgery right away would have been the right choice, but I'm guessing they saw the worst case as he gets surgery later and still has time to get ready for this season, so the downside of trying rehab isn't all that much.

If you go back 6 weeks ago, Norris was talking getting into a couple of games in preseason and good to go. Doesn't seem like he's off that pace, tweak aside.

Ya, there's 5 preseason games left I think, 2nd last one is a week away so still on track for that,

It doesn't get serious until we're down to the NHLers anyway. You don't want him in games where you've got shenanigans anyway. Look at the Stone / Vegas game the other night. Or the past shit show with Montreal running players.

Good point, last thing you want is a mixed speed game where theres AHL'rs trying to make a name for themselves going 110% while the established guys are going through their paces just trying to get their timing and shake off rust. The closer it is to final rosters, the safer and more predictable the game play becomes imo.

Behind you, look out
I had the same injury as Norris. The doctor recommended against surgery as it since it could risk the limited mobility of my shoulder later.

He also said if I was younger and an athlete they would do the surgery (Thanks for calling me old and fat) so take it as you will.

Yeah, it’s definitely too bad the sens weren’t able to convince him to get surgery when the injury first happened like the Habs did with Caufield.

Just watched Josh Norris score a goal in a pretty fun and heated 3-on-3 drill. He took some contact and looked very comfortable in the process. Norris didn’t appear the least bit cautious or tentative to me. (He practiced with Joseph & Kubalik as his wingers today).

Why do I feel like Ian posted this just for the HFboards pessimists? :P

Thanks Ian!

Ya that's what I was thinking. Pretty hard to tell a guy what to do with his body. Another example is McDavid and his knee. I don't think the organization pushed him one way or another, but he definitely went against the grain avoiding surgery.

The kid has injured his shoulder multiple times and they also thought he was good to go last January before he reinjured it three games in. No one should feel any optimism until he's played in 10-20 games without going down.
