Post-Game Talk: Josh Archibald has eliminated the Oilers from playoff contention

Leadership on the ice is a bigger problem than the coach. McDavid and Draisaitl playing nervously doesn’t portray strength and resolve to the rest of the team.

Love both guys. But we need a strong leader as an alternate captain next season.

Also!!

Why the f*** do we have a coach who switches systems after going up 4-1?

Statistics have shown time and again that trying to "protect a lead" does not work.

Trying to protect a lead instead of extending your lead is cowardly.
He talks about the flow of the game all the time. f*** the flow of the game Tippett. Establish your own pace. If what you’ve been doing is working wonderfully then keep your foot on the gas.

He overthinks things in the playoffs, such a p***y mentality.

I get people are upset but we know this team is flawed. It was during the regular season and it still is.

We may have been able to move past Winnipeg but they have tremendous forward depth. We just don’t.

Holland should be able to make some decisions about Nuge and Barrie absolutely no-showing when it counts.
I rather Barrie no show then Bear who is showing in all the wrong ways

He’s looked deflated and defeated all series. Like he knows this team ain’t it so why try. Not what you want to see from our 12M dollar saviour.

Why is Drai so consistently seeming to be the leader and captain of this club, and not McD?

This is the 2nd playoffs where Drai has risen to the forefront and 3 pts be damned, McD doesn't get a sniff at any if it isn't Drai making all the outstanding plays. McD hasn't got a thing done in this series, in 3 games.

You can't lead a bunch of replacement level players.

No timeout called
Playing "not to lose" with a 4 - 1 lead
insisting on playing Mcdavid and Drai together
Not realizing bear was NOT feeling it

etc.

I honestly feel like we haven't had a coach that can adjust during a game in forever.

Tippett isn't getting fired but it makes you wonder if they get swept with some questionable coaching decisions playing into it if it's perhaps considered. Holland is big on stability so I don't see it but they have an overripened young coach who is doing a great job in Bakersfield and a lot of good veteran coaches on the open market so it's something that Holland should consider. I put the chances at like less than 5% of it happening now but Tippett just seems like a bridge coach to get the team to playoff level and teach them structure, not a guy who is a difference maker in terms of competing for a Cup.
But do you think he should be fired?

Better trade him for Taylor Hall.

Hall now has a series win so he's the better player right?

Lol, what does hall have to do with anything ? Point is McDavid is getting paid like someone who needs to be doing something in the playoffs. Who cares about the regular season if you’re lackadaisical in the playoffs.

It's kind of unbelievable.

How do you not call the timeout there? Just do something for f***s sake.

Not to mention, man... we could have easily shortened the bench. Bear was just coughing up pizzas all night. Perhaps after he bats the pp goal in he could f***ing sit for a bit instead of being sent right back over the boards to help the Jets forcheck the next shift.

Like I have said before, Tipps and Maas must have some common DNA. There is always something to prove.

Weak links kill you in the playoffs. We have 3 lines of weak links. No team can expect 1 line being flawless and making up for 3 other lines sucking at the same time is a recipe for playoff success. Tipp isn't helping either. We played like scared children half way into the 3rd and he didn't seem to mind it until it all blew up in our faces. Loading the top line is still crap too.

not sure about stats but the eye-ball test has told me for decades that it's a terrible idea. Yet every single solitary team does it including the teams with stat-head front offices and coaches.
It's purely psychological: people get scared after going up, don't want to lose, and take measures that they think will help them.

Teams that go into a shell tend to give up more chances since they aren't spending any time in the other end. If you're brave, you shake off those nerves and keep playing the way you've been playing.

The Defensive Shell is a good idea in theory. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work.

I can’t imagine being interested in this team any time before next playoffs, if then. Maybe if half the team were different players that I thought were impactful NHL’ers. Just so much investment with constant shit return.

Archie went from one of my favourites to I can’t stand him.
