Value of: Josh Anderson to a contender

For all the remarks here, I could see Anderson snapped up by a contender for the right price /cap retained then going on to win a cup where he is a factor for them.

100% . I think Anderson is a good add for any playoff team. Despite not getting many goals this year I don’t hate the way he’s playing

its too bad really.. he had a slump, but that seemed to motivate him more. I have never seen him so good, and yet nothing was going in.

Kent Hughes went on l'Antichambre yesterday on RDS (french) and had some interesting comments, specifically on being now in a position to consolidate assets, whether that is give a bunch of draft pics to get another roster player or a better pick or to upgrade young talent in the line up. Kind of like what happened for the Cutter Gauthier trade.

I wonder If a team going for the cup may have an interest in Anderson's type of play, which seems suited to the playoffs. He is playing better than his numbers show, though im probably not as enthusiastic about his return as some of my fellow habs fans. It could be that some teams woudl be willing to package that with a Savard or Allen for an interesting return, along with whatever picks or players it would take to fill our needs, which i see now as RD and RW or potentially future G.

Why the hell would Montreal retain on him to move him? They like him and have zero motivation to move him

Montreal is going to retain for 3 years after this?
No. No they're not

After some thought, I don't expect Anderson to be moved to a high-end contender, their cap space is already too tight to add a player in his price range, and the easy cap savings have already been used up. This might change in a couple of years as the cap catches up with inflation and cap room becomes less of a *constant* problem.

However, there might well be a mid-level team, that could use a physical forward and could absorb the cap hit, or at least a part of it once they shipped a player the other way. I suspect Anderson would do better on a more meat-and-potatoes forechecking team.

After last night I wonder if Philly and his old coach Torts might be a good fit. A big team won't need him to physically lead the charge constantly, but he'd fit in well and might do better when opposing D have many large forwards to concern themselves with, already. Plus, they have a few options for cap management that might make it possible to fit him in under the cap (say, returning Petersen to mtl in the deal).

What's he's value to a contender ?

Let's say Anderson with 30% retained or take a cap dumb back
You should have done the math here bro. That's $5.5MM x 70% or $3,850,000

Which team wants Josh Anderson for the next 3.5 seasons making $3.85MM AAV. That's a much better way to ask this question.

Bruins should be all over that.
