Meh. I actually haven't seen the hit (don't venture over to the main boards much), but with Kopi slated to return today, I won't lose any sleep over Nolan being suspended.

Kreider gets absolutely nothing for his very dangerous shove from behind at a high speed, but Nolan gets 2 games for that hit? If you're going to suspend players, at least be consistent.

I miss old time hockey.

Ditto. You know the time before the talking heads and crybabies took over. Simple boarding call and nothing more. Why even have the on ice penalty if they're just going to suspend?

The NHL is a joke. The office of player safety, by merely it's inception, has made the sport that I love more and more unwatchable every SINGLE day.

Dumb hit and deserved.

They may have got it wrong with Kreider, but that doesn't make this hit any less dangerous. Nothing but numbers the entire way and no let up.

It's about consistency. Kreider's hit was very dangerous. The recieving player could've went head first and with the speed and force of it, could've been severly injured. You can't turn a blind eye to that hit, than turn around and suspend another player for a hit from behind.
Consistency has always been the problem with the NHL's safety committee.

It was a dumb play by Nolan, but two games for that?

What ever happened to the days where players didn't put themselves in a vulnerable position to be hit awkwardly?

And I see hits like that every other game that don't result into suspensions.

Nolan, on hit: "his feet were pointed up the ice and i thought he was close enough to the boards where he wasn't going to go in awkwardly."

Nolan "disappointed and shocked" but understands, accepts league's decision...

Not super mad about it, and you have to punish Nolan as a repeat offender, but that was really a nothing play. Stupid, reckless hit, but nowhere near Kreiders. We've been on the receiving end of worse this year. Just seems frivolous with what else has already been let go this year, but meh. I get that you can't NOT punish one because you messed up on another.

The force isn't even there for a 5 minute major, hence the minor called on the ice.

It's one thing to say it was from behind, it's another thing to take into account the force of the hit. Since he was so close to the boards, Nolan would of had to come with a lot more force to cause an injury as opposed to when a guy is four or five feet away from the boards.

A slash to the hands is more dangerous than this hit. Both are two minute penalties. There is no malice in the hit as Nolan could of killed him if he wanted to. ****, Stoll has like 10 hits from behind that are worse than this. Maybe if Nolan pulled a Stoll and held the guy after hitting him from behind, it would of been okay.

This is such a nothing play with the subsequent suspension further sending this league down the slippery slope of less hitting and more figure skating. I'm not bummed out from losing Nolan but am sad as a fan of the sport of hockey. This isn't even a fineable offense, let alone a suspension.

The league hasn't stopped ****ing us since the start of the year. I don't expect them to stop till near the playoffs I guess

I agree consistency is a problem, but if a player did to a Kings player what Nolan did to Helm, would you say that player shouldn't get suspended because Kreider didn't get suspended?

I have no disagreements about the inconsistent punishments handed out by the Department of Player Safety, but that doesn't mitigate the pointlessness of the hit.

On whether [Sutter] was “surprised†by the league’s ruling on Jordan Nolan:
Nothing surprises me. Absolutely nothing surprises me. [Reporter: What was your interpretation of the hit and how it happened?] I think Jordan didn’t target the head, didn’t throw himself into it. Actually, he glided into it. The player’s feet were moving not towards the boards, down the boards. Nothing surprises me.

Here's the hit:

I have no problem with two games. Helm never seen him coming and Nolan had a lengthy stretch approaching him from behind, he should have realized that he was hitting him from behind and slowed accordingly.

It was a stupid hit by Nolan.

Absolutely the way I see it as well.

Thanks for the link. I mercifully turned the game off at 4-0 and went trick or treating with the kids, so I missed it live.

It was a dirty hit. Helm was vulnerable and Nolan hit him hard between the numbers into the boards. Surprised he didn't get 5 and a game on the spot.

Nolan is in a tough spot too, he's a guy who's paid to finish his checks but probably should have let up on this one.
