The only reason Nolan got 2 games is because he's a fairly no name fourth liner. Only thing consistent about suspension rulings is how the star level of the players effect the decision. Krieder doesn't get suspended because he's much higher on the skill chart.

All the main boards needs is to see the LA Kings logo on a player to assume they're dirty.

Nolan is just about the least important player on the roster right now, so I'm finding it hard to care.

I miss old time hockey.

Ditto. You know the time before the talking heads and crybabies took over. Simple boarding call and nothing more. Why even have the on ice penalty if they're just going to suspend?

The NHL is a joke. The office of player safety, by merely it's inception, has made the sport that I love more and more unwatchable every SINGLE day.

old time hockey where NHL's best talents routinely had shortened careers because of cheap hitting goons? sorry, but i disagree. when it comes to watching hockey, i'd rather the greats play a long illustrious career then a shortened injury filled one. that's not even mentioning the follow up articles on how these childhood heroes lived horrific lives of depression from having brain mush. get the cheap shots out of the league. Their tactics may not be effective yet, but at least they're trying.

2 games is fair. Nolan is smarter than that.

At the rate we're losing players, by Christmas we wont be able to field a basketball team. lol

I can understand the call but I do wish they'd be consistent.

Nolan's game has disintegrated, guy does nothing on ice. Use to make smart timely hits.

This one is not one of them.

Clifford/Nolan/Lewis/Andy . Honestly these guys shouldn't even be on the roster. All useless plugs. Kings really need some skill in the bottom pairings.

He got 2 games for being a repeat offender. Nolan has to understand that even relatively minor plays like this are going to be under a microscope for him for a while and he has to err on the side of caution in his play if he doesn't want to be riding the bench.

Without a history, Nolan gets a fine here, simple as that.

With everyone always ready to jettison Clifford, I still think Nolan would go first. Guy's done nothing.

Mte.

What in the world are you talking about? When did that stuff happen and to whom?

The NHL is turning into some Goddamned, boring ass European league and it makes me sick to see it happening.

I see a boarding call there and not much else. Nolan doesn't charge him, the Detroit player is close to the boards, so hitting him isn't going to cause him to tumble into the boards the way the Krieder hit did, which should have been a suspension IMO.

Yes, Nolan hits him in the numbers, since when is that an automatic suspension?

Agree with the former, only because Helm's head bounces off the glass pretty hard. I'm tired of concussions ending careers prematurely.

Disagree with the latter. More and more, Nolan seems to be a dumb penalty magnet. It will get him benched and/or traded.

I'm a Wings and Kings fan (it's sort of like a 1a 1b goaltender situation), so coming in peace here.

Honestly I was surprised the league even reviewed this hit. I thought Wings should've at least gotten a power play out of it, but am surprised the league stepped in.

If this suspension is a sign that the NHL is cracking down on no-brainer hits from behind, then I'm all for it. Up til now the league's position on hits from behind seemed to be, "it's ok if you don't hit him too hard, unless something goes wrong and a player gets hurt then it's completely not ok."

If they will consistently send the message that you just can't hit a guy in the numbers, then great.

What this most likely is though is what you point out. Cracking down on a marginal player.

So far with Quintal the inconsistency has gotten worse. It's like at first he didn't want to pull the trigger on any suspension, but once he got over that he's handing them out like candy.

Nolan has to be the toughest and most physical player on this team every night. If he isn't then he isn't doing his job, and shouldn't be in the line up.

I disagree. It should of been just a boarding penalty. When has a simple boarding play results in a suspension to anyone? Surprised it even went for a review.

Nolan has been playing like trash because of these type of calls on him! It completely neuters his game. He can't hit anyone without thinking it about it first. This causes paralysis by analysis. The only thing he could do is maybe transition himself as a power forward that absorbs punishment more than give it and concentrate on puck possession and creating havoc around the net. I don't think he can finish but he can at least cause offensive chances. He has shown skills for that at most.

Clearly a dirty hit very deserving of a 2 game suspension. When you take strides at a guy with his numbers showing the whole way that's a very dangerous hit.
