I think it's a lot of leftover hype from his second and third season. He was really being talked up but from what we've seen and heard he hasn't really improved as much as some people would have like this season. Personally i'm still hopeful and I think it would have been a shame if we lost him for nothing
And I think your last point is helping with the “hype” as fans are probably just excited to be the bride instead of the bridesmaid, especially after such a crappy season for Montreal. It’s nice he chose the Habs as he was free to go in 5ish months.

I am convinced now that he was 100% going UFA if Bergevin was still GM. He still hasn't signed but I like our chances.

I didn't know two year ELCs were a thing. So if he signs a 2 year, then burns this year, he's up for renewal after next year?

Well, some familiarity in the new Habs brass isn’t hurting.

Even if Bergevin was gone but he still had no familiarity with the new management he’d probably be gone too.

But like you pointed out, not official yet. 🤞🏻

Yes, and this is a 3rd round pick. More than ever you better make sure of players before you give them big money.
He'll probably get a few years before he signs long term if he develops well. But if he proves to be deserving of it, I generally have no problem with the Habs giving players contracts that last through their twenties.

Their goals were down. They had 98 goals in 38 games this past season for 2.57 goals/game. Last year they had 66 goals in 21 games for 3.14 goals/game. I wouldn't expect Harris's production to drop in half though. His +/- was better this season however (+11 after being -5 last year). Maybe the Huskies simply executed a more defensive team game this past season.

Last year they had one of the best PP's in the NCAA, this year it was terrible. They had 1 player that could consistently put the puck in the net. They were missing 3-4 of their top 7 forwards and 2 of their top 6 forwards were out most of the season.

Yes after last season I expected a big Senior year, they had a lot of injuries early on and couldn't score at all. At one point they were scoring at a 1,7 goals per game. So how much of that is Harris's fault or how much of that is due to the team not being able to score? The only thing I can say for sure, is that he will easily be an NHLer, the IQ, poise, skating, mobility, defensive play are going to have him in the NHL no question. He is not big, strong, or overly physical but he will take the body and finish his checks. He doesn't have a big shot but he can get it on net as he's real good walking the line as we say in today's game. He can move the puck well but he's no Markov of course.

This second point was really helpful will likely top out at as a top 4 but counters the nonsense of he’s a bottom space pairing d only

This is amazing that the signing drama is over. Here's to hoping Harris can hit the ground running being surrounded by better players. Watching the progression of Schueneman under MSL has me much more excited about this guys potential development and outlook. His mobility should bring lots of opportunity in any case. Let's go kid.

Upon signing (I know it's not done yet), my understanding is that he'd only need to play one game at the NHL level this season in order to burn one year of ELC.

I'm intrigued as to whether he'd get to stay up longer than that and how much of it might be a function of the leverage he's had in his negotiations, assuming that's something he can secure for himself.

Ideally, I'd like to see a situation similar to Barron where he's given practice time and eventually be made available to Laval for its playoff run. At least, that's what I'm imagining will be Barron's path.

I can see the headlines: "Jordan Harris does a 180 degree turn, will explore free agency in August."

Pretty sure he signs though. Will be nice to get the official announcement.

Thx
We should see him sign a deal here, very soon?

I'd expect it to be announced this weekend. Friedman basically reported it as soon as he was eliminated, so I would imagine yesterday was spent with his team, coaches etc. following the loss and at some point today or tomorrow, they'll sign the contract and figure out the logistics to get him into Montreal.

Now we're getting word that if Harris plays one NHL game this season, he won't be eligible to play in the AHL playoffs.

And of course, he'll absolutely want to play that NHL game in order to burn one year of ELC.

Here's an updated tweet that attempts to rectify a prior erroneous comment that would have been attributed to Anthony Marcotte as the source of the error:

Like if thats whats holding up the signing, holy moly.. You’re not Gretzky kid.

His ELC is already cut a year short from being 22 per CBA, your team wants you for the farm playoffs and you get NHL time next year guaranteed — but you’re kicking tires NOT to help Laval and absolutely burn another year off that ELC?

It’s insane how this situation has unfolded the past year or so

We should promise to dress him for one game to entice him to sign and then renege on that promise afterwards, thus securing the full two years of ELC.

:sarcasm:
