A little sore at the idea of Edmonton getting a good goaltender, hey? No, I don't know what Husso's contract demands will be, and neither do you.
Why would he ask for anything less?

Hé won't go for under 5.5/year so at this point it's not like the Oil can afford him

Why would Edmonton want this guy ? What's up with every team wanting to cast thier cast-offs to Edmonton ?

Agree with it or not, I think the Oil are content running with Smith and Skinner next year unless a high end goalie becomes available (I don’t see it happening).

Either way, Binnington has zero appeal for us.

Like him or not Binnington would be the best goalie on the Oilers since Roloson (unless I'm forgetting someone, he's certainly better than Talbot and Smith)

If you’d take a 6x6 Billington over and expiring pending ufa Koskinen your entire fanbase should be singing praise your not the GM

Most goalies have off years at least once, and his was mainly health related. He wasn’t the same after he got Covid until recently. Just like when he was absolutely dreadful in the bubble coincidentally right after he had Covid.

I’d absolutely bet that he has a better season next year. I’ll also take a goalie who’s won a Cup over a 40 year old Mike Smith, and a goalie who’s best season in regards to W/L’s has him with the same GAA/SV% as Binnington’s worst year.

You're missing the point. Binnington is overpaid for a long time. Koskinen's contract is up this year. Smith's is up next year. Any team trading for Binnington is trading for an anchor. You don't trade for six years of a struggling goalie who makes a ton of cash each year. It screws with your chances to win by locking you in to a guy you can't rely on and screwing with your salary cap.

The only way I even think about Binnington is if all other attempts to get a new goalie fail, and the Blues retain 2.5M. Even then, I'm not sure.

Looking at similar goalies, $5.5 seems a bit rich. Saros, Demko, Merzlikins, all signed for $5M/year or less and you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who wouldn't take Saros or Demko over Husso.

You’re missing the point. If he bounces back after a tough year, the contract won’t be nearly as much of an anchor. I never said I wanted to trade him in any posts, either.

He's been on the Decline for three straight years .. what's this bounce back gonna look like ...? Championship form? Last year? Year before?

Mike Smith is old and wildly inconsistent. But why would the Oilers be interested in this? Is the behind the “vaunted” Edmonton defense the place Binnington will regain his form? Not a lot of desire to bring on an overpriced “meh” goalie. We don’t have the cap space anyway so it’s mercifully not going to happen regardless. I’d feel better trying a Skinner tandem than trying to shoehorn Binnington in just to watch him continue to soil sheets.

Jordan Binnington:
2021-22St. Louis BluesNHL350142028104023.08161349780.904
Mike Smith:

2021-22Edmonton OilersNHL2616146070022.8814927330.913

What does Binnington 'regaining his form' even mean? Even if we ignore that he had a particularly poor season this past season, he had an exceptional rookie season, and has had pedestrian numbers ever since.

As others have mentioned, I think teams would gamble on Binnington if his contract was short or if the cap hit was low, but he has a top 10 cap hit among goalies, and a huge amount of term.

No one is giving him anything close to 5.5M, he was fighting to stay in the league 6 months ago lol.

Jordan Binnington his past four starts: 4-0-0, 1.75 goals-against average, .944 save percentage. Stopped 118 of 125 shots
Yup let look at just his last 4 starts and forget about 3 years of below average play . Mike Smith Have been great his last 10 games at 2.2 million we should get a mint for him I guess .

If Koskinen had the same stats and an Oiler fans posted this nonsense we would have 500 fans bashing us base on one person .
