I hear Tyler Bunz is available. Labarbera too. :)

Pray Quick stays healthy.

If JQ ever went down, I always had faith in Martin Jones to hold the fort. I can't say the same for any other cheap backup UFA goalie on the market right now.

Disagree completely. The 5 names I mentioned earlier (Matt Hackett, Tom McCollum, Tomas Greiss, Jhonas Enroth, or Michal Neuvirth) can all be solid backups that can step if needed. That's not even mentioned Bartosak who if long term injury hits has done nothing but dominate every level he's ever played at (including out play Berube last year). Goalies are a dime a dozen other than the top 10 or so of which LA has one of them in Quick.

In reality if you think about it what's the difference over a short period from forward #10 say Nicklas Backstrom to forward #60 say TJ Oshie, Ryan O'Reilly, or Eric Staal? That's the difference we are talking. Maybe over a full season you see it, or maybe it takes multiple seasons to see it. Now take that down to a 20-30 game stretch. Who knows who gets hot. It's the same with goalies. That's why other than the top few who consistently produce goalies are very very easily replacable. I mean look at how mediocre AHL tender Hammond did last year in Ottawa. In pretty much all respects he's a worse goalie than JF Berube who should basically never be in LA's crease. Yet he got hot for a short time and played great.

I said CHEAP. As in really cheap. Like compared to Berube (.563M). Enroth, Neuvirth and Greiss would be fine, but they're not gonna be less than 1M.

I don't know what makes you think Hackett would be a good option. McCollum has played 3 NHL games.

Given the salary retained in the Lucic deal, they have flexibility to spend $1.5M or so on a decent backup.

EDIT: Or given that the Oilers just acquired Talbot, Ben Scrivens? $2.3M is probably a little more than they want to spend on a backup, but they can wait and see how the off-season plays out into July, and if they have room, go for it.

I disagree. I think Enroth, Neuvirth, Greiss are likely signed between 700K-950K on one-way deal.

Hackett and McCollum will be signing 600K-700K two way deals.

Remember most teams have their goaltending set, they won't pay anything for those types of guys. All of them have solid potential and shown good stats in the past.

We are not going to get Scrivens back.

He was not as good of a goalie here as his stats suggested, and he was replaced by Jones in the time that they were our 1&2 because the coaches did not like how Scrivens was playing.

You made Scrivens sad

Jones really was a pain in the ass to management, wasn't he? A holdout, high salary demands, wants to be a starter...obviously all well within his rights and I'm glad he's a competitive guy who wants the best for himself, but that had to be super annoying for DL to deal with and his comments about Toffoli being a good soldier with contract negotiations seem like a chop at Jones too.

Definitely hints of him being frustrated with Jones, who they reportedly thought would be the easier guy to sign out of him and Toffoli. Even Bernier, who I always thought had a big ego, agreed to a bridge deal on the cheap behind Quick. Sucks because Jones is gonna be a good goalie and it would have been good to have a guy like that in case Quick misses time. Hopefully the next guy they get can do a Scrivens and unexpectedly excel.

Neuvirth wanted the chance to be a starter. Obviously the market precludes that option at this time. I see him re-signing with the Isles for a two year deal at 1.5-2 million per year.

One guy the Kings may look at who should be dirt cheap is Kevin Poulin who is in need of a change of scenery. Had potential to be a solid starter until a knee injury a few years ago. I think the Isles lost faith in him and his confidence took a hit as well. I am sure the Kings can straighten him out.

That's why I'm thrilled he threw him to Boston so he can be in the same situation as before.

I'll be "that guy:" I was much more impressed with Bernier during his time here than I was with Jones. Actually, now that I think about it: I was more impressed with Scrivens during his time here. IMHO I don't think it's a given that Jones turns into a bona-fide star-goalie; I'd say it's just as likely he's Stephan Fiset 2.0...

EDIT ADD: I think some of the lofty expectations for Jones are hyperinflated due to that (admittedly impressive) 8-game streak he had during his first season; IMHO he was rather pedestrian (maybe slightly more) other than that...

If it does, we're gonna be in danger.

Besides, Futa has already gone on record saying we're going to go the UFA route.

Maybe as a wakeup call to come to camp in shape He will be waiver folder if not and i could see teams claiming him due to the development hes had and if he leaves for half price worth a shot if i was a team in need of a backup. I think they sign a cheap vetern and he ll have to beat him out loser hit waiver like what happen for 13th forward andreoff vs cracknell
