This is exactly why I have a hard time seeing the Penguins, with Vokoun, go all the way. I understand Pittsburgh can score in bunches and when you have a 5 goal lead, you can put Cechmanek in net. Pittsburgh will struggle vs Boston, they're a much better defensive team than both the Islanders & Sens and play a hard checking team. I wouldn't be surprised if Boston won in 5-6. Goaltending is huge in the playoffs, does anyone know when the last time a team won the cup without a solid goaltender? Your goalie has to steal games for you here & there, Quick has definitely done that for us over the past 4 years in the playoffs.

Detroit won a couple with Osgood.

The Pens have won one with MAF.

I figure we've got 7 years or so more of his services before his body can't handle it. Probably about as long as his current contract lasts.

Enjoy it. It's a once-in-a-lifetime talent we're observing.

Is he better than the 2010 Ryan Miller? Wonder if the US would've won the gold if they had today's Quick as the starter.

He should be the starter in Sochi (if NHLers are allowed by the league to play).

For selfish reasons I hope they split the goaltending duties at the Olympics. Don't want Quick to play every single game. We're seeing Quick on borrowed time with the style he plays. Got to save and preserve him for as much as we can!

The three goalies in Sochi may very likely be Jonathan Quick, Jimmy Howard and Craig Anderson.

i won't be surprised to see J Gibson in there also. the kid has been the backbone of the US Jrs the past few years. it would be a tremendous leap, but playing in the #3 slot puts no pressure on him at all. a complete long term project and future grooming of the US' next goalie after Quick. i am not looking forward to him down the 5

Quick is actually pretty smart, might be the most cerebral goalie in the league right now.

Quick said he studied angles a lot((in the mayors interview), and the puck still has to travel trough the center ice at some point, even elevated (unless it's perfect under the crossbar).

So that's why quick still gets a lot of pucks that are elevated.

You literally need a perfect shot up top for Quick to not get a piece of it.

Exactly. It's all math. The goals that scored on him when he doesn't totally flub it(which happens) tend to be perfect shots, wildly deflected shots, perfect plays, etc.

The sheer fact that he has had so few 3+GAA games in the post season is unreal.

Not to get too far OT, but Gibson was excellent at the World Championships this year as well.

We are super lucky to have them. Who would have thought, when he came up in the carousal of goalies that one year that he would be what he has become today. Didn't we have something like 9 different goalies play for the Kings that year (his first game)? I just remember one of his first (if not the first) in either Calgary or Edmonton and they interviewed him after the game in a hallway by the locker rooms. I remember thinking he looked pretty good out there, but would have never guessed. I'm wondering if DL would have even guessed (or JQ for that matter) would have been this exceptional. Being a Kings fan since 1990, it's an amazing feeling to not have to ask the question every post season, "Who's the goalie next year?" In the late 90's through the late '00 that's exactly what we did (other than when we had Potvin). Crazy.

I will say, Hank is an amazing goalie, but I'll take JQ each and every time. Sure the Rangers leave Hank out to dry, and don't score a lot. Sure he's not the problem with the NYR and is their best player, but Quick goes beyond the excuses and wills this team to win!

I will say, I had my doubts this year when he struggled and we just handed the huge contract to him, but he's back in form. Let's pray he stays healthy for many years to come.

Rangers goals in 12 games: 26
Kings goals in 12 games: 24

Woah, man. Our offense is just so much better than theirs! Or wait...:sarcasm:

I'd say he'd have to be a phenom in his rookie year to earn that #3 spot on the Olympic squad. Gibson is young, his time will come in 2018. It's too risky going in with him as the #3. Say the top two guys get hurt, you can't rely on a rookie on that platform. They have to go with the best options into the Olympics.

Going back to Quick, it's fitting that his idol was another U.S. born goalie in Mike Richter. Watching this highlight video, you can see the influence.

But but Rangers fans think Lundqvist is still the greatest Ranger goalie of all time! :sarcasm:

We can mark Quick's career by the "philosophies" on how to beat him:

PO year 1 - shoot on net
PO year 2 - shoot high on him
PO year 3 - shoot higher on him
PO year 4 - shoot harder on him, the diver
PO year 5 - shoot around him

By year six they'll have a bucket of ice cold Budweisers to try to lure him out of the net.

You are a little bit off on the timeline. The philosophy now is to try to run him and get him thinking about contact. Soon, the philosophy will be to injure him and remove him from the series.

Where IS Raffi Torres when you need him?

Just watched the handshake from last night again. Quick is all class. I really enjoy having him on my team.

I hope he has a small idea how much Kings fans appreciate what he brings to the table for us, and am glad to see more and more people start to recognize and appreciate the talent he possesses.

Every time I see a straight up Quick robbery, I thank the hockey gods that he's in black and white.
