Is he on track to break any U20 records like Pettersson did?
Kent Nilsson has the U20 goal scoring record at 28 goals. Probly his pace will drop off, but he could make a run at it. Pettersson is second on that list with 24. If Lek ties or breaks Pettersson's total, would it be fair to then consider him a Pettersson level talent? He would be pretty close.
Petey did it in his 19 year old season no? Lekkerimaki just tuned 19.No he wouldn't.
Pettersson did it in his D+1 rather than D+2, and also led his team in both goals and assists in both the regular season and playoffs while winning the championship, playing a more valuable position, leading the SHL in regular season and playoff points, and winning league MVP.

Oh yeah he will need to do a lot more to be considered at the same level. It was his D+1. He turned 19 early on in the season - November birthday vs July for Lekkerimaki. He was in the NHL his D+2.
But even if we're counting the years as the same, he's still going to have to do a lot to have "pretty close" to the type of year Pettersson had. Pettersson's D+1 was absurd. That was like five seasons ago or whatever, and he's still younger than any other SHL MVP. Like, not youngest at the time of winning but current age.

I think it’s more apt to compare prospects’s progress based on age vs draft time. Seems like Petey turned 19 like 4 months after the draft and Lekkerimaki turned 19 like a year after the draft? Is that right? Can there be such a large age difference?
yeah I think it should make more sense to compare them based on their year no?Yeah, it's because they use Sept 15 as a cutoff for draft age, but you'd still end up with similar issues regardless of the cutoff date.

Like 19 yo season vs 19 yo season. We know the physical difference is quite big between 18 and 19.
Wait till Lekkerimaki scores 30!Yeah, that's fine. There's still basically no comparison at this point.
No man, wow, do you not remember Pettersson's pre-NHL days at all? Don't do that to yourself.Kent Nilsson has the U20 goal scoring record at 28 goals. Earlier in the period he made another nifty play were his stick was tied up along the boards, so he just dropped it, kicked the puck free and then made a kick-pass to his team-mate. This play led to another post (by Leino), so he is unlucky not to have been on the ice for a goal for thus far.
He has been directly involved in three good scoring chances so far, and his puck skills really stand out at this level.
