Jonathan Lekkerimaki - Arrived in Abbotsford

While the all may be true, it’s important to remember that Lekkerimaki is a Canuck.

Yea I think he’s still a very intriguing player to have who projects well even if he’s not Pasta. Especially if Petey and Miller can stay and get their shit together

I think what Lekkerimaki has shown/done is very encouraging. Let's hope he manages to stay healthy and continues to develop.

My biggest concern with Lekkerimaki is that Tocchet might not be the coach for him. As in he may not reach his full potential here.

Certainly, but nobody is using someone like Pastrnak as a comparable for any reason other than every Canuck prospect is the best possible one forever

Yup.

One must be very careful about making projections like that. I can see why the comparison was made, but it's not really helpful to the poor kid. If you are pencilling 100 points perennially into the lineup like 4 years down the road and you're right, I'm very happy for you.

But there's a personality behind the player and why they make plays out there that they do. It's funny how when you speed everything up, trouble begins. It's much harder to crash a car at 50kph rather than 100kph. It's much easier to make a bad play at the NHL level than even the AHL level.

How is Lekkerimäki after that fall into the boards? Felt a bit scared seeing that :-(

Seems to me that Abbotsford and the Canucks really err on the side of caution with injuries to their younger players. Lekkerimaki has missed a lot of time. And Klimovich has missed a ton of games to injury over the past three seasons.

And Raty and Sasson have also missed a chunk of time. I guess the focus is on 'player development' rather than wins and losses--so there's no urgency to rush guys back into the lineup.

Lekkerimaki splitting his time between the weight room and the buffet table is probably the most effective use of his time right now.

I think it's the trauma built up over the years. Remember when we didn't draft Nichushkin? It was like we missed out on drafting the next Kopitar!

Quieter night tonight in Calgary, even though his team won 8-4. But in last night's 3-2 loss to the Wranglers, their broadcast team described him as the most 'dangerous player on the ice.

He's up to 19 goals, but what we don't often see is all the posts he hits or the times when he's robbed by the goaltender. And it isn't just his shot. He's shown surprising skills as a set-up man as well. His down low vision, is almost sublime.

Obviously the only issue with Lekkermaki is 'size and durability'. He's pretty slight. But I suspect this off-season, he'll spend a ton of time in the gym. If he could even get up to 185-190 without sacrificing any of his speed and shiftiness, then the Canucks will have a special player on their hands.

Let him cook in the A.

might not be much help to him if he is to be inserted into our team in a mist of a playoff push. too much pressure on him.

Disagree.

If he’s going to make it in the NHL, it will be as a scorer. The best place to learn how to beat NHL defensemen and NHL goalies is in the big league.

The AHL is a different pace and a lower skill level. Fundamentals are great, but we want this guy to be a top-line winger. Not a bottom-six contributor.

I think Lekkerimaki's immediate future really depends on what happens with Boeser. If he's traded--and the Canucks fail to replace him with another top-six forward--then they probably have no choice but to elevate him from the AHL.

I'd stick him on one of the top lines in Vancouver with either Pettersson or Chytil, to see what he could do. And I'd make him a fixture on the PP along the half-wall. He scores a lot of goals by moving to the middle of the ice and letting fly with that lethal release.

Would be so refreshing just to see somebody 'firing away' on the PP, instead of the endless cycling.

Right now the physicality and pace of the NHL are difficult for him. He's better off in the AHL at the moment. There's no point of him being in Vancouver if he's going to get thumped physically and shredded defensively.
