Glad they went BPA and not for organizational need eg. bischel or pickering
Repeat after me.I’m not thrilled with the pick as I don’t see an organizational need and there’s far more small scoring wingers in the NHL than any other position. It’s also a perfectly defensible pick and I’m happy enough.
The big problem is that by not having a second round pick, we’re very limited to a bunch of dice rolls to better the prospect pool. A second tomorrow would go a long way to filling an organizational need.
4th...no? NHL/AHL/KHL ahead
Maybe people mean for his szie, because usually sub-6ft skill guys are expected to be faster than averageCam Robinson described him as having above average NHL speed and Corey Pronman says he’s average. Calling him slow seems to be disingenuous.
Personally, I prefer the decade of:
Cassels - Hodgson - Rodin
Shinkaruk - Schroeder - Jensen
I'm also looking at his SHL Jr #s: 26GP-20G-15AHe did go 5-10-15 at the U18s and I’m not sure I would read too much into his Cy Young numbers in the SHL given he was playing fourth line minutes.
How many times does Cassels have to fight to stick up for his teammates, the poor bugger is surrounded by so much softness…Personally, I prefer the decade of:

I had Bichsel at 9, I've been kinda targeting him all season, hoping we'd have a chance to draft him. But I had Lekerimaki just ahead of him (7). And Kemmell just after. I think they were 3 good picks.I’m not sold on this pick, but a lot of you guys are posting strong arguments and I’m coming around a bit. Still would have preferred Kemell or Bischel but if you guys are happy I’ll be happy.

I agree with everything you said.I love the self-report when people say they do or don't like the pick, but then only compare him to past Canucks (Naslund+ seemingly Boeser negatively).
If you don't know the league well enough to choose players throughout the league, I sincerely doubt you have seen enough of JL or have enough comparison points.
Also, this board is so mercurial. Boeser led our team. in scoring in 20-21. He led an NHL team in scoring, and has scored at a 30 goal pace just about every season. But in a weird draft where the opinions are varied on how much talent there is to find, Boeser is the worst case scenario.
He's going to have a good year next year (Boeser) and so many people on here are going to get amnesia about what they said all season/off season about him, you heard it here first.
On JL. You take the best player available, period. He and Kemmell seemed to be considered similarly, and I give our GM the benefit of the doubt on Swedes like I do for Columbus with Finns. Remember when they didn't take Puljujarvi at 3 and everyone on hfboards mocked them? They took Dubois and now Edmonton is frustrated that they're being offered like a 3rd for JP.
Hockey sense, shot, finding space in the offensive zone and stepping into it at precisely the right time for a teammate to find you, and doing so at a competent level in the SHL at 17? Yes please.
I've seen neither play... but from all reports Kemell and Lekkerimaki seem to be pretty similar players, with some scouts pointing at skating as being an issue for both. Lekkerimaki is reported to have a much better shot while Kemell is better in his own end.I’m not sold on this pick, but a lot of you guys are posting strong arguments and I’m coming around a bit. Still would have preferred Kemell or Bischel but if you guys are happy I’ll be happy.
There’s was a pretty good goal scorer drafted 15OA (1977) who dropped to that spot because some believed that all he could do - was score. This kid scores from everywhere and in every way."The thing is that Lekkerimäki isn’t really great at everything else. He is average at best when it comes to skating, and while he reads the game well he doesn’t push the envelop in any regard defensively. It is the one-dimensional play that makes it difficult to project his success down the line. In a way he reminds me a bit of Victor Olofsson of the Buffalo Sabres; while his overall game isn’t the best, it may not matter when you can score from anywhere on the ice."2022 NHL Draft prospect profile: Jonathan Lekkerimäki is one of the draft’s best shooters
The winger has few peers in terms is his shot power, but that’s his only true ability.www.habseyesontheprize.com
got our boeser replacement

He went through Mono this year. He’s 17. Got a frame to put on muscle as he matures. I think he’s going to get taller (6’). He’s not a guy who will carry the puck with exciting speed through the neutral zone. He’s more a cerebral player, who has elite puck skills, that can score in multiple ways. He reminds me of Bossy from his draft class. (Or more recently Marner, but with a shot.)He is small and slight and does not have the skating to compensate for that.
Trade down with whom? Montreal had their sights set on acquiring Dach and made it happen. Habs comfortable staying where they were after getting Slaf and the trading for Dach.Yeah, on the surface there are a lot of players available at those two Montreal picks that I would have been happy with at 15. Sounds like if Lekkerimaki weren’t available the team likely would have traded down too. Clearly they had him a tier (maybe two, given the leaked list) above everyone else. Good test for the new group.
