Sounds similar to Alex Holtz who went to Nj at 8OA in 2020. Best shot in his draft as well. But I am sure Holtz overall game was a bit better.

I was thinking the same thing and I don't particularly like Holtz. But Lekkerimaki is young and a lot of his perceived weakness now are correctable.

Lekkerimaki is in some great company for a U18 player in the SHL. His production hovers around Zibanejad, Nylander, and other top line forwards.

I think it is worth noting that he has played centre position in the past although it is generally believed that his skillset projects him to be a better winger. On some sites, he is listed as centre\right wing so maybe there is some flexibility there.

I don't know why some of you are putting a cap on drafting a scoring winger.

We needed everything coming in to this draft- pretty much unanimously agreed on that.

Lekkerimaki scores goals...oh no! It's.obvious they rated him much higher than the D and C available.

Take your best rated player and move on. If we have a 30 goal scorer in 5 yrs are any of you going to be complaining?

Again, we needed everything.

My guess is now that the draft has come and gone without the team addressing C or Rd through draft or trade some of the shine will be coming off this pick

Why is he playing in the Allsvenskan? He should be good enough for SHL

The team itself was been relegated to Allsvenskan because of its season performance. It's how the SHL works.

That shot already as a 17 yr old.
Can't wait to see what he adds to his game in his 18 yr old season.

Shooting 400 pucks a day has given him an unreal shot, absolutely no wind-up and is hard as a slap shot.

Repeat after me.

"YOU DO NOT DRAFT FOR POSITION. YOU DRAFT BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE"

Now your turn.
Generally I agree, but I think this year things were different for teams. Since the rankings were all over the place after the top 3, many teams went positional rather BPA, the Canucks thankfully did not. There other needs can be dealt with through trades.Signing Kuz really changes their winger situation.

BPA includes the premium for size, position and handedness. It will differ from scout to scout - otherwise all the lists would be the same.

The more I read about Lekkerimaki the more I like the pick. It sounds like we're getting a borderline elite offensive talent and there's lots of room for growth.

The disappointment is the lack of high picks (again) and no deals. That's not really acceptable - there's plenty of fat on the team that needs to be carved out but we're looking at future picks and players now. It's a disappointment thusfar but let's see how the summer goes.

He also grew like 4" in his draft year. He is still 17. Sky is the limit here, really like this pick from management.

“should have gone top 10”

Why did 14 teams pass on him? Who knows how many others after us would have passed on him. I’m not at all saying he’s a bad pick (I literally don’t know any of these guys that got drafted and haven’t watched them play) but there’s teams and teams of scouts that didn’t like something about him to pass on him.
Or liked another player more. Maybe Korchinski goes 15 or later if the Hawks don't grab him etc. It is possible multiple teams have a player ranked top 10 but another ranked higher.

I get that Lekkerimaki's consensus rankings were higher, but he really wasn't my favourite there at 15.

He has an elite shot. No one disputes that. But he has generally poor offensive habits, really is more of a "perimeter player", and even his off-puck reads to get into scoring positions aren't frequent enough for a pure-shooter type. Physical game is non-existent. I don't think he (currently) has NHL habits.

But the shot is there. At the high-high-high end, maybe you end up with someone like a Pastrnak or Laine. Probably more realistically he's a Hoffman-type player if he makes the NHL - which I'd argue isn't that valuable of a player.

I was higher on Ohgren or Pickering at the spot, given who was available.
Sounds like a Boeser description.

Schroeder was so underwhelming a draft pick most times I can't remember his name. Gillis couldn't draft shit.
Tooooo be faaaaair, at the time he was seen as an absolute steal. Can't miss prospect. Leading scorer for the US in WJC history. His knock was his small stature and lack of footspeed, which eventually resulted in his inability to play in the NHL full time.

You would have to see more teams lists. I will say that canucks list looked reasonable most of their top 20 rankings were gone.

After watching more tape of this kid I like the pick even more than yesterday.
His shot is ridiculous. Skating is totally fine. Real Good shl production. Underrated playmaking and still super young.

Really happy they went BPA like they've said and not the rhd obsession i had to read here every 90 mins in one form or another.

I read somewhere they didnt pick a rhd at all, which I semi jokingly posted awhile ago. They need everything it doesn't matter what order, it matters what quality.

They need rhd right now not in 4-5 years. That is where the focus needs to be, getting a semi-proven young top 4 RHD.
