Even though Jonathan has never said it in interviews, he does not want to be part of the rebuild in Calgary.

Where does it say he's open to waiving? All I see is a statement saying he needs to be good again to re-establish trade value, wow big shock.

at least you put it as speculation and not a rumour. That website based their idea on what the player need to do to re-establish himself to create a market and that would encourage him to waive his no trade clause

I can totally see him going to a contending team and putting up big numbers again. I can also totally see no contending team being willing to take on that contract--due to its length--without serious retention.
No contender can absorb that contract without giving spare parts back. It would be a Hunerdeau for junk trade

The contract, itself, ensures he's not going anywhere soon. Even if the Flames retain salary it's going to be tough.

Unless he requests that the contract be terminated so that he can move on and start over as a free agent.
