Brodin's probably too young and green to make the Olympic squad, but I can definitely see them regretting not putting him on there, just as Canada did in 2006 when they snubbed Crosby.
We all know how good he is - given a chance to make the team, I don't think his age will be a consideration.
Plus, is mobility will be even more in his favor on the larger ice surface.
That wasn't the point, although I do think you are getting ahead of yourself a bit when it comes to Brodin (despite him being one of my favorite players).
Chemistry is always important and especially when going into the Olympics where you have no time to train / play together before. Even if you consider Brodin better than Ericsson, Hjalmarsson and Oduya you have to see the point of having a defense pair who already know each other well. For example I would take Hedman ahead of Oduya, Hjalmarsson and Ericsson individually but I think that SWE will prefer taking the a ready pair ahead of Hedman.
We'll see what happens and I really hope Brodin makes it, but Kronwall/Ericsson, Oduya/Hjalmarsson and the fact that Gustafsson was the no 1 D in the WHC makes is much more difficult than some people seem to appreciate. Brodin has an outside chance at making the team if he manages to keep up, or improve, his level of play from this year during the fall.
I think he'll be there as an alternate/healthy scratch. Which is better than nothing
Niether Oduya nor Hjalmarsson are better than Brodin. yeesh.
Agreed..but those are vets and established players there. Brodin is the better player yes but as far as making the team I'm not 100percent convinced he beats out those players.
Same goes for Dumba - if he can't make the Wild next season, he is a bust.
Quite possibly the dumbest thing I've read on here in a while.
Seriously, if he can't beat out the assorted slugs that populate our 3rd pairing, huh?
It's deja vu all over again!!

i see what u did there...
But yea, kid is only 18 years old, lots to learn
Ummm. . . . HE'S NOT EVEN 19 YEARS OLD YET!!!!!
Plenty of time to develop, plenty.

The point is that while he is probably better right now...it isn't a better fit for him or us to play 3rd pairing. Its why would you have him make the team to get 13minutes a night playing 3rd pairing and no PP time.
Its much smarter to let the kid grow as a player in a league he can dominate..if he's ready by all means give him a top 4 spot but if not let him develop.
We don't want to ruin the kid you can't just throw prospects on the team to play 13 minutes(or 10 as a forward) and hope it works out. Fletcher and Co. have stated many times they won't do this.

If N. Schultz can make it as a 19 year old, why not Dumba?
Brodin is not yet a top 2 defenceman. I know we all love Brodin and I am a big suporter of his but his 11pts in 45 games is NOT a top2 defenceman point total. If and when he puts up 30-40 points in the upcoming seasons then yes he´s a top 2 defenceman. He will eventually get there but right now he´s not, even if he can play top 2 minutes.
