I believe it's a video package the whole league will be seeing but they played it before the Devil's home game last night, it was very well done. I do think the 13 seconds of silence should have been 34 seconds, 13 + 21 for Matthew's number.

I like how the English soccer leagues changed from a moment of silence to a moment of applause where everyone just cheers really loudly. Also gets rid of the chance of idiots yelling stupid shit because they know that everyone can hear them.

For all of his perceived faults, Torts is a great guy.
Losing a child is something Torts would be extremely sensitive too as it's something he's likely feared most of the last several years as his son is an Army Ranger... IIRC the day of the Flames/Canucks line brawl, where he went after the Flames dressing room, that was the day he learned his son was going on his first tour as a Ranger.

Yeah, he may be a jackass of a coach, but he's always come across as just a genuinely decent human being.
I had a coach like that in college. He was a pain in the ass, I thought he hated me. Guy showed up to my mom's funeral after not seeing him for 10 years, and still calls me every once in a while to check in.

I feel like a lot of tough coaches can be like that.

Say what you want about the way Torts handles his coaching duties, but for the big off ice stuff like this he's always come across as a class act.
He’s one of the nicest people in the league. At least publicly since I obviously haven’t met everyone. He does lots of volunteer work with dogs and was also close with this kid Liam (I think that’s his name) who is a disabled Ranger fan.

Absolute legend and hope he gets into the HOF one day.

Edit - to add, Torts even kept in touch with Liam when he got fired and subsequently coached Vancouver.
