Were they wearing helmets? If not, that's another lesson to take from this.
And two kids under two losing their father. I’m sickI just found out, I feel so horrible for his parents to lose 2 sons.
RIP.
f*** Alcohol.
Imagine someone victim blaming at this point.
Honestly, depending on how fast this guy was going, helmets weren't going to do f*** all to save either of them. Were they wearing helmets? If not, that's another lesson to take from this.

Alcohol is so pervasive in society.
Probably but when you’re also drunk your motor skills and instincts are severely slower. He did everything wrong and because of it two people are dead.zThat's debatable. There are plenty of reckless drivers who would pull a move like this even whilst sober.
This isn't the late old days where you can't get an uber or something with a click of the button on your phone. If you own a car + can go out and get a drink (if it is 1) then you can afford an uber home. Personal responsibility for other people in society needs to start be a thing again
Are you f***ing insane? Were they wearing helmets? If not, that's another lesson to take from this.
It’s not necessarily a victim blame.
Biking rural roads at night is like walking through a dark urban park at night. Regardless of whether it should be as safe as broad daylight, on a practical level you’re going to encounter different dangers.
I'm not clear the driver was drunk. He'd had a drink, but mostly he was aggressive, selfish, and reckless. Such a senseless tragedy.
Two counts...probably 10 years per count. The vehicular homicide laws are pretty lax, doubt he spends all that much time behind bars considering what he's done.
He said to the police that he drank 5-6 beers so probably over 10 since people always lie about that shit.

Ah, I'd only seen that he admitted to "having a drink." thanksHe said to the police that he drank 5-6 beers so probably over 10 since people always lie about that shit.
I almost think that people who buzz cyclists should have to get on bikes and see how it feels to have a hunk of metal whizzing by your left shoulder at 50+km/hr within inches. Or to walk across a crosswalk and get cut off by a turning car obviously focused on only looking for other vehicles rather than pedestrians. There's a sort of disconnect of perspectives between those who only know getting around by vehicle versus those who walk, cycle and drive.I did not know about this until I just saw this post. How awful. In addition to not treating drunk driving seriously enough, the US simply does not protect or respect bike riders the way we ought to. Other countries have actual dedicated lanes that are protected from the automobile traffic. I wish we took biker safety more seriously here. As it is, I would never ride along a busy road because of reckless and inconsiderate (and drunk) drivers. Just a truly horrific incident.
100% true, but if I recall this happened at like shortly after 8. That's right around when it gets dark right now. It was probably light when they set off on the ride. I suspect they wouldn't have set off on the ride at 2 am in the morning. It’s not necessarily a victim blame.
