Oh, you'd take Iginla over Gaudreau for a playoff run. Just pointing out Kipper played out of his mind, and if Flames won would have had just as strong a Conn Smythe case.
Either would have won it but I highly doubt Gaudreau sniffs a Conn Smythe in his career. He just isn't built for the playoffs when he doesn't have the time and space for him to do damage.

To the surprise of no one.
True....for us outside of the Calgary Puck wishful thinking society, it is no surprise...but it has been funny watching Flame fans try to convince themselves Johnny was going to sign there when everyone outside of CP knew otherwise.

That's an awful package. You really do love to just toss out the most overvalued package possible and then guys go for far far less

Caught this late. I'd seen LeBrun's "test the market" tweet, but not Seravalli's "he's not coming back no matter what" one.

If Seravalli's take on the situation is accurate and he's done no matter what... ow. Feel bad for Flames fans. :(

@super6646 sorry for your loss friend

Treliving really screwed up here. Knowing the cap is going to skyrocket soon he needed to come up with a much larger number if it's going to be a 8 year deal. Any superstar signing a longterm contract before the cap rises is getting screwed if they're not pricing that cap raise into it.

He better not do the same to Tkachuk

They probably knew he wasn't going to sign a while ago. Lots of time to make a deal with a team that's desperate to sign him.

I may not think much of the Flames but I, at the very least, think they can manage math and a salary cap. They could see this coming.

I knew before this season started he wasn’t going to resign. He wants to go somewhere else it’s his choice.

I mean that's a given. The only way he was staying in Calgary was by being paid a premium and with the 8th year.

Kinda hard when you're first in the division and, at that point, expected to go on a long playoff drive.

Also, try telling your fanbase at that time that they are trading Gaudreau because he probably won't be back after this season.

No, Calgary did the right thing at that time and kept Gaudreau.
So trading his rights for something is bad management? One would think that losing him for nothing would be worse.

You're out of your mind to offer that

Based on the Treliving presser, there is zero chance. He's done as a Flame

If he wants Philly then this could take all summer. He’s under no pressure to sign a contract right away. He can give Fletcher time to make other deals before signing.

And that’s exactly what I think is going to happen but I think it’ll only take a few days and not all summer.

As a Devils fan , I’d really like to sign Johnny but I am pretty damn certain he is going to Philly . Too many things there for him and I dont think the Devils would be close enough for him. It’s Flyers.

Like it’s been posted , Gaudreau and his camp will wait for the Flyers to make room and do their thing , unless they have the room to sign him now?

You act as if having no cap space is difficult for Chuck Fletcher to overcome! Ha! Never underestimate the power of Chuck Fletcher to undermine the present by giving away the future.

He can always create cap space by trading away all of his draft picks to teams like Arizona to take away contracts he wants to eliminate. Who needs draft picks when you have a team full of bloated contracts for aging veterans who will lead the team to 20th place in each of the next 6th years? I mean, isn't this the goal of hockey? To overpay mediocre players to not make the playoffs? As a Flyer fan, this is what we are good at, and it appears to be what the team aims for, so I figure it must be the goal of the sport.

Looking forward to Gaudreau getting his 65 points per season at 10.5 million! It's gonna be awesome!
This is why as a long time Flyers fan I hope Fletcher doesn't sign Gaudreau but unfortunately that's probably what is going to happen. Fletcher is useless as a GM and is totally going to screw the Flyers for years to come. I pray that the Flyers have a shitty year coming up and Fletcher gets fired.

I am continually puzzled by the fact that some people are surprised by this. From the outside looking in it was plain and obvious that he was going to leave as soon as he didn’t sign last summer. It would have been really surprising if he had signed last summer, but once that didn’t happen it seemed beyond doubt.

If he gets 10+ for 7 yrs that contract is going to look bad real soon.
Yeah I don’t see any team who’s counting on him being their best player and building around him. It regretting it very soon.

He’s just not a good playoff performer, plain and simple. Game isn’t built for it and we especially saw it in the Flames vs Oilers series

So the Oilers do use the various Analytics services out there. I remember asking this question last year in my thread about the Oilers analytics or lackthereof. But it also seems that they still behind the ball if they are talking about integrating it with the scouts eye only now.
What does any of this have to do with Gaudreau?

This was true about Stamkos until he almost carried his team through an impossible postseason schedule this year.

It sounds like no matter what they offered they weren’t signing him.

Simply doesn’t want to be so far from his hometown
