I'm not at all familiar with Finnish law, but there were a number of aggravating factors. It wasn't just a case of a first timer who was drunk and hit two bicyclists. He had open containers in his car, he drove on the shoulder at a high rate of speed (extreme recklessness) and he fled the scene afterwards.
Dude the "life sentence" here is obv life, but the longest "life sentence" this far has been 22 years, president always pardons ppl way before. I think the average "life sentence" in Finland is around 13years.

Things are way different, also the "open container" is funny. Here in Finland you get the breathalyzer, and you can ofc say no to it, but then its straight to blood test, no nonsense "touch your nose" stuff. We also have just random checkpoints where you gotta blow to the machine, usually often after big party days or sunday mornings etc.

"I had few beers" is detained and straight to blood test.

I think in drunk driving we do better, on others maybe not so much.

I agree on the drunk driving part but the success of a justice and prison system is not measured by the "harshness" of the "punishment". One person who actually got help from the system is worth so much more than 10 who got "punished".
