Hell I’d add Richards, Carter, Umberger, and Hartnell to that list. Mason. Bryzgalov. Kolosov.

Wasn’t LeCavalier thrilled to be out of Philly?

I’m not saying it’s fully on the org, but this theme is a bit funny.

They managed to piss off Sean Couturier of all people. That dude could be the most dutiful team guy in the league. Sanheim. They pissed off Gagne out the door.

Bob.

Ellis wouldn’t even play for them.

Patrick is another example. Think he threw them, and Vigneault in particular under the bus.

What would we even call the "in" side of the ledger?

Michkov, by pure luck
York, for now
Tippett with a nightmare contract, middle six player
Hathaway (lol)
Seeler (triple lol)
Risto (groan)

Can someone who is good at the economy tell me if that's good value relative to all they've shed?
Simply ask yourself if in say 5-10 years from now, which lets not kid ourselves, that's how long it will take IF they're able to build a legit contending team. Who will still be on that team.

1. Michkov if he is very patient
2. Tippett because he is unmoveable and for no other reason.

Everyone else? That's a long time for this stage of their careers and for their expendable ability levels.

Flyers for 10 years straight now: "We need top end talent. Where can we possibly get some?"

How many times has Tortorella publicly stated that he thinks that confrontation is good and healthy and that he seeks that out with players? I bet we could google numerous comments that Tortorella has made on just that. Now they're disciplining York for just that. What a dysfunctional, cluster fudge of an organization this is. Just a complete abomination. I'm real close to being done.
Il Douche Tortellini got fired for announcing his retirement to the media after the Leaf game. I can't believe York telling him to shove it was the final straw.

For the sake of an argument, let's assume that York and Tortorella had a confrontation that went across the line. Torts was justifiably canned, not let go. York had to have some sort of punishment sent his way because the incident became public. According to NHL rules, the Flyers had to have twenty healthy players dressed for the game with the Habs. Being that York was healthy, he could not be sent to the press box. So he spent his penance by sitting on the bench for the game. He's back in the playing lineup for tomorrow's game with Buffalo. Alls well that ends well.
I seriously hope that the Flyers FO can put this mess behind them and make peace with York with an extension. He was mercilessly ridden by Tortorella and doesn't deserve to be sent out of town for half or less of his value. Face it, Sanheim and he are the team's top pairing. There isn't player on the roster to fill York's role.

On account of everything the Flyers have shown they value in hockey players and personnel since 2014. The fact that they like how Shaw works is bad. The fact that Tortorella loves how Shaw approaches the game is bad.

If all those people think Shaw is good, then it means he's not. Sure he can be an improvement on Tortorella, but that's not very difficult because Tortorella hasn't given a shit for a single second he's been here. But ceiling above and beyond that? I presume zilch.
But if he's helped the D get better, isn't that a good thing?

In a normal NHL team environment and a normal player-coach relationship, yes. A player should be punished. Not in this case. For the following reasons. The coach publicly encouraged, created, seeked and created a work environment where off ice confrontation with his players happened. Like a crack addict, Tortorella had to have this. He called it healthy and a necessary part of player and team development. This coach is clearly a deceitful, dishonest coach with obvious personality flaws. York in the past was sent to the AHL in part due the coach did not like how he acted and responded to off ice confrontation. To paraphrase, called him weak and soft. Now when York reacted in the way that the coach was asking for and encouraging, now he gets scratched for it? LOL The Flyers front office shouldn't put this mess behind them. They should be fired for it also. The enabled Tortorella, they allowed this environment to foster and grow. They are also responsible for it. It's called a hostile work environment. They hitched their wagon to this guy! Hilferty called Tortorella the team's "spiritual advisor". Are you kidding me! It's not alls well that ends well. This team is colossal mess of dysfunction and absurdity.

I agree with most of what you say. I believe that the FO knew what was going on with Tortorella and the team. There were similar issues between Tortorella and the players last season that Briere and Jones had to patch over-CIP the Couturier situation.
This year Tortorella crossed the line with the FO despite the fact that publicly they acted as if there weren't any issues. It has been reported that at the STH meeting, Torts was chatting away tossing players under the bus. That had to grind Briere/Jones/Hilferty.
Torts knew that he was finished at the end of the season. It's why he became more negative with his comments to the press and aggressive with his treatment of players. The FO wanted to wait until the season was over to let him quietly depart. They did not want the firestorm that this came to be to happen. The FO was willing to let him leave at that point and save face by allowing him to resign. However now, Tortorella went off of the reservation and made things public so he had to go. Notice Briere fired Tortorella; it was not a resignation.

The D has gotten better?

York has regressed. Seeler has regressed. Risto is a 6th dman. Zamula regressed. Sanheim continues to improve despite having to run against the wind annually, not thanks to anything the coach or team has done.

The only "improvement" is that they no longer play under AV, whose system is almost totally devoid of D and F meshing and supporting. Being better than AV isn't saying much. The defensive results for the team haven't been great.

Exactly. Even more damning to management. They wanted to quietly sweep it under the rug as best they could at the end of the season. The less fanfare the better. They knew what was going on. How dysfuctional and decrepit and unprofessional Tortorella was and is. It's their fault! They allowed this environment to be developed and to continue. He didn't just go off the reservation here, he's been off of the reservation. Again, many fans, myself included knew what he was when he was hired. This is what he has been his entire career. They hired him and hitched the franchise to him! He pulled the wool over their eyes and had them completely fooled. They hired a deceitful, petty manipulator who was in it only for himself and his legacy. When it started sinking, he quit and purposely created a situation that forced them to fire him. They had to fire their "spiritual advisor" What a fool Hilferty is.

like ive always said..

given any choice 50/50 they will ALWAYS chose the wrong one...

even getting rid of Torts.. they should have run it out till the end of season... but nope.. gotta f*** up that draft pick number...
I disagree. If Tortorella's interactions with York and other had become that toxic, they needed him gone. Plus, one of the big knocks about having Tortorella here for this season is that he would scrape and claw his team to meaningless wins. Give Shaw the directive to play the lines and pairings equally and roll the goalies.

But Lavy shoulda been fired that offseason. His system depended on mobile defensemen and they kept bringing in guys like Schenn, Grossman and Richardson for him. Thats like giving a lumberjack a spatula and telling him to get to work.
It’s just the point that they made a franchise prohibiting decision for a coach they were clearly no longer committed to.
