Confirmed with Link: John Tortorella relieved of his duties as Flyers coach. Brad Shaw to take interim charge for now.

On account of everything the Flyers have shown they value in hockey players and personnel since 2014. The fact that they like how Shaw works is bad. The fact that Tortorella loves how Shaw approaches the game is bad.

If all those people think Shaw is good, then it means he's not. Sure he can be an improvement on Tortorella, but that's not very difficult because Tortorella hasn't given a shit for a single second he's been here. But ceiling above and beyond that? I presume zilch.

How many times has Tortorella publicly stated that he thinks that confrontation is good and healthy and that he seeks that out with players? I bet we could google numerous comments that Tortorella has made on just that. Now they're disciplining York for just that. What a dysfunctional, cluster fudge of an organization this is. Just a complete abomination. I'm real close to being done.

I don’t see anything wrong with it. Tortorella clearly got fired in part because of it and the organization also couldn’t just sit there and not do anything to a player that got into it with his head coach.

I’m pretty levelheaded about this. It all tracks.

You can't punish a player for being confrontational when he was mistreated by the coach. When the coach has repeatedly publicly asked for confrontation and publicly stated that he thinks it is healthy and necessary and part of team building. Tortorella created the situation and asked for it. York was sent down the the AHL because he was "too soft" and "non-confrontational" in Tortorella's view. I don't think you're being level headed here at all. No offense.

The people behind the Pat Maroon debacle are all still here, unfortunately. And they remain heavily influential.

Anywhere else it's probably an easy given that York stays, but it's not an easy given here. No doubt they are having serious and long discussions about how they probably have to get rid of him.

You absolutely can punish a player for getting into it with the coach.

Torts is an asshole for trying to get into it with players. Obviously this whole thing went above and beyond what a normal confrontation was.

Tortorella, a man that they said themselves was in the plans for the next few years, was fired over it.

They can try to spin it however they want but they say it popped up over the last few days. This was the catalyst.

A line was clearly crossed. York was sat for one game where they weren’t allowed to just scratch him. If they continue to mess with him then they went too far but it seems like it will end with the one game.

Well of course you can do whatever you want. Whether it's right or wrong or makes sense or doesn't. The Flyers prove that. The antagonist is who should have been blamed. He kept poking York in the face over a period of years and maybe York finally had enough. Good for him. I hope York tells the Flyers to go pound sand and he wants out. It's a complete cluster fudge and any attempt to try and justify or blame York, is simply non-sensical
I'd like to see York's agent come out and set the record straight. Remind the public of what actually went on.
