Confirmed with Link: John Tortorella relieved of his duties as Flyers coach. Brad Shaw to take interim charge for now.

As others have already said… I thought Coots was noticeably just… happier and freer on the ice. If he can stay healthy and have a good offseason (and plays a lot with Michkov) he’ll be a 55-60 pt guy for ~2 more seasons is my prediction.

It may have already been posted but I saw a post either on FB or Twitter speculating that the reason Torts was fired because of comments he made after their last loss that pissed off Danny Briere? Anyone else see that?

There is no doubt that was the main reason why. There was no hint of the Flyers firing Tortorella before that. He publicly announced that he no longer had interest in coaching this team

I gave it about 24 hours (due to a nasty stomach bug) but im so happy he's gone, it's like Christmas time, but i have the worst feeling we will bring in tocchet who sucks as a coach, he does have an out in his contract this year......very very concerning, hoping they bring in Carle, but Danny firing torts i think covers his own ass and gets him a bit longer of a leash, time to see if his balls have dropped or not, time will tell

Friedman says on 32 Thoughts that he heard that trading Laughton was tough on Torts and that’s where things started to go sideways

Comments in Toronto that it was ‘the whipped cream on the sundae,’ and forced their hand. There’s players fighting for jobs, so it really bothered the organization

Laughton probably tried to hold them together, and keep the loyalty to John.

f***ing kiss ass loser.

Again though, the “leaks” are hilarious. From the team that never leaks unless they are trying to control a narrative. To a team that hailed John as its spiritual leader, part of a 3man leadership group.

They will now do as they have always done. Pick someone to fall on the sword, and pump out the messaging as needed.

Just as long as those who advocated for John’s hiring (I have a bridge to sell if someone thinks that was Fletcher) - as long as those men, face no accountability themselves.

He also added that he initially phrased it as Torts stepping down because the tip he got didn't have all the information on what was happening. But then the team officially confirmed Torts was fired.
