John Tavares the Man the Myth the Legend

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Not his fault, he got signed for market value. Blame Lou/Dubas/Shanny for not locking in the young core earlier to team friendly deals. Mitch extension especially should've been handled before adding JT.
He’s still the reason no matter how you choose to spin it

Meh.. that's 7 years ago, now.
Remember how everyone thought this contract would age, though? That we would hate the end of this contract and he'd be cooked by now. Dude has been steady, and above his Islander pace every year (except for last year's blip). It's outright phenomenal.

Yeah we felt it seven years ago and now we’re in a position to rejig this whole thing when the contracts are up hope we don’t handcuff ourselves again

Maybe. It's a JT thread, though - not a Contract thread. Dude is killing it and has every year if we're honest, only caveat being the blip Last Year of course.

My guy is a f'in goal away from 30 again!! It's kinda insane that we're seeing this, still from this guy.

Well to be real here, it started when Dubas fumbled the Nylander negotiation. He lost his nerve and started talking out of school, trying to paint the Nylanders as greedy, cared more about the name on the back of the sweater. Instead of keeping cool, being a gentleman and allow Gilman to make the money work. He was reduced to a guy begging Nylander to sign. The number turned out to be a good number.

He was fresh meat for the others, there was the story that in December Marner was willing to sign for 9x7 but Dubas blew him off saying he isn't sure if it fit the budget, and he'd get back to him. In Feb he announced signing Matthews for that joke of a contract over 5 years that paid him 56 plus.

When he Dubas, basking in his self made sunshine for his brilliance in signing the RFA Matthews early. For reasons that don't make sense he decided playing hard ball with Marner and Darren Ferris a guy who was in a league that Dubas had never seen before. For some reason he probably thought that no one was tougher than the Nylander clan. Tilt game over!

Now enough of the contract talk for people other than JT.

What I wanted to know if some miracle occurs and the Leafs win the SC with JT this year or next. Does John Tavares go to the HoF?

If JT signs this July for 4x5.75 with an NTC, NMC for the first 3 yrs, 4th year he can use Spezza rules

Even with last season, his 5v5 scoring was still consistent but the horrible Leafs PP caused his PP production to dip significantly.

Only bright spot for the Leafs against the Preds was JT getting his 30th. Unreal. That’s his 7th career 30 goal season in Year 7 of his "albatross" contract... lolll

He can score 30 and have an albatross contract. Two things can be true, and in this case, they are.. the salary structure and cap mess of this team can be traced directly to the JT signing.

Still great that he is having a good year. I just hope the leafs don’t sign him to a dumb number again.

Not really. Even if you believe the narrative that he became the standard for salary our GM didn't need to cave to those demands.

Because my neighbour got x for his house in 2022 doesn't mean I'm getting the same in 2025.
