John Tavares the Man the Myth the Legend

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Goes to show what he’s capable of which is a lot more than I imagined… still can’t help but be aggravated by the fact that the best we get from our players is during the regular season during contract years… still great to see nonetheless.

JT looking a bit better in this one, after a few struggles recently - and despite having a passenger on his line right now.

Annnnnnd making more history, as part of this core. Alongside Matty getting the 200th multi-point game of his career tonight, big JT secured his 15th 20 goal season already. Insane in Year 7 of this deal. Only him and Ovi have done it since 2009, with Kane having 14.

But the truly wild stat, was from Tim on Sportsnet tonite - only 31 Human Beings have ever had 15 20 goal seasons. Insane kiddos!!

15 seasons of at least 20 goals is quite impressive. Says a lot about staying healthy and having good longevity in a tough league.

Didn’t he score the OT winner to win the series?
He did but unless you put weights on specific goals. it does no change the fact that he has been the least productive of the 4. He's been pedestrian since he scored that OT winner vs Tampa. He did have an important goal and assist vs Boston last year for his only two points in 7 games.

Somebody's gotta score all the important goals. Noone else has!!

He is a great pro, just goes out there and does his job, never complains. Didn’t like him as captain, though. Don’t like how robotic he was and some of his answers every year after the playoff exits. He didn’t leave you inspired. He is doing great this season so far, not being captain is better for him and the team.

That's fair. Don't disagree.

Some of that stuff is good --> don't get too high or too low; stay composed and professional; dont give away tooo much, etc.... But then sometimes, you just want him to yell, be fieed up or angry or sumthin'..!! Hahaaaa

Not John, and I think as you said that's working for him too.

JT is looking like he's hella dialed back in again. What did we expect tho, right? Guy is a horse.

Just tonight against the Rags, with another three point night:

Passed Sittler for 53rd in All Time NHL Goals scored...
1 of 8 active players to hit 1100 points (68th all-time)...
2nd in the NHL this year in Goals scored on 2nd night of a B2B (trailing Ovi by 1)..

Dude is a menace out there right now.

Time and again we see player after player having a career resurgence during a contract year.

This isn't limited to the Leafs either. It's a league wide phenomenon. Players step up in a big way when there's money on the line.

Maybe every contract should only be for a year.

Then everyone will be paid fair market value based on most recent performance. There would be no need for buyouts or cap dump trades. Just pay the player what he's worth and call it a day.

Sure it's a bit of a pain in the ass having to negotiate a couple dozen contracts every year.

This is a big business I'm sure they can figure it out. There's probably more accountants and tax lawyers employed in the NHL than there are players. For most of these guys their performance doesn't fluctuate much from season to season anyway so there wouldn't be a huge difference in compensation one year to the next.

Only in a contract year do we ever really see them play their best.
