Lost in all the JT hatty or AM potential fights…
What is your impression of Holmberg?
To me, he didn’t do anything special or really bad. He was just solid. Anyone see it differently?

I agree. Looked like he held his own out there which is nice to see. I hope they give him a few more games to see what we got in him. Ideally he can become our 4th line center with Kampf moving back up to the 3rd line.

So I guess you just didn't bother to read the post you're replying to, where I said "Our team is not perfect. No team is.".

So if the team is not perfect, and the players aren’t perfect, what’s the issue with highlighting specific areas for improvement?

I thought he played with a lot of pace and poise down the middle. He seemed to play higher than Kerfoot does, which I actually liked because it put him in better position to get back and help defensively.

I'd like to see Tre Kronor line get another game in.

JT been on an absolute rampage this season. Looks like he did in his first year in Toronto

Matthew's starting to warm up. He's much more physically involved than earlier in his career.

Holmberg looks useless. 10/10 I would rather have simmonds in the lineup, who actually serves a purpose.

Seemed timid, but definitely didn’t seem out of place. A few games to know his linemates/ team system and we might see a very different player.

First impression: great 3rd/4th line C option for the season

Pretty silly comparison but a player that's played 600 games would have a pretty good idea on how this is viewed in the room and around the league.
Nope - just another hater who happened to play in the NHL. Same as spittin' chiclets guy whitney I think his name is - just a cement head hater. I don't know if you have noticed but a vast majority of former players - not very bright and VERY full of themselves and speak very much the same as any blow-hard but yes they can big league you

No team or player is perfect, so our team or player not being perfect does not necessitate filling the post-game threads of great wins with complaints, much less complaints about meaningless things that wouldn't actually improve them as hockey players, but merely conform them to your personal, unrealistic preference of between-play conduct. Matthews has plenty of informed people to help him improve in actual beneficial ways, and plenty of internal drive. I don't think the reigning Hart trophy winner really needs your tips.

Is this a serious post, or no?

You wouldn't take it out during a hail storm if you don't need to.

The other car analogy I often like to use is hockey and the playoffs can be like an off road alley. So ideally you have more of an all terrain vehicle that can handle anything as opposed to being too dear, too precious, too high end.

You can lump Methot into that - better player than these plugs, but also a cement head. Colby Armstrong, too. They parrot the same takes and overestimate how much their "grit" matter while Hall of Famers were carrying them.

I think we could use a couple cement heads, but I don't think we should give a shit that they don't like Matthews reaction.

Second goal was a dandy, it’s good to see Cap stepping up but we need more of those types of play. Flyers while playing well are not a true test of competition IMO. Judging our play and record against the Sabres , Bruins, TB and Florida will be much more telling.

One note, while I like that Gio stepped in game to defend AM a 39 year old shouldn’t be doing that. We need somebody who can mix things up for our stars but also I would have loved AM just Rag Doll the S%+# out of konecny and caved his face in. Not to the point is knuckles could be broken but to send a message don’t mess with us. Sid did it.

This and a 5-2 game is the perfect time to stand up for yourself. Big weakness in Matthews game.
Even Crosby stopped taking people's shit over time, and for good reason since everyone took liberties and almost turned his brain into mush. Sid would've levelled that little prick

A message board isn’t the most obvious place to hang out if you’re looking to avoid having conversations about something.

The Leaf board should be the best place to have conversations about the Leafs, and celebrate a dominant, much needed win, where we beat the other team in the underlying metrics, the scoreboard, and the scrums. Something for everybody! Unfortunately, even a post-win thread is full of complaints about the most minor, meaningless things.

Malkin gets a lot of space and time because opponents know, once in a while, he'll bury you if you mess with him

He has done that to Rangers so many times. Matthews is 6'3, he needs to man up once in a while, throw that big hit, drop the gloves especially if you started it
In his younger days, when they were winning Cups, he was one of the dirtiest players in the league. Puck watchers wouldn’t see it, but he’d give a little jab spear to the ribs, groin, or a sweet little tap to the bare wrist. Sometimes he’d make it look like he was off balance or didn’t see the guy to get away with it.

I loved it, needless to say.

You’re free to discuss any of those other game topics, and stay out of the scrum topic like Matthews chose to stay out of the fight last night.

Then this whole thing is literally about nothing. What’s the difference if Matthews stands next to a guy or touches the guy next to him?
Not much to be honest. And not to be dishonest, standing next to and touching the guy next to him is exactly what 34 did.

Nevermind fighting, but how about somewhere in between? And maybe replace that smile with a snarl. That'd be nice.
