Agreed with lost, but I wouldn't have Willy with Marner AND Matthews ES. Too limiting for the other lines on puck carrying and they won't be maximized IMO.
Yeah something to be said for his puck carrying. That might work to allow a wrinkle in how Magic and Matthews set up in the ozone. Hyman and Gally carry the puck and forecheck the puck well too.

What's noticeable is his skating stride is just back to normal which is spurring him on to be more confident on the attack. Not sure why he was the way he was when struggling, health or otherwise, but it is a huge sigh of relief that he's reversed course.

And all of the pessimistic contrarians go quiet.

Crushes Ehlers in the first with a big hit, carries his line, and sets up Simmonds to break his slump. He's been one of the hardest working two-way players on the team this season playing the best defensive hockey of his career. How people complain about this guy is mind blowing. He's still a top 10 C hovering around a PPG Leaf career across three seasons in Toronto.

He's essentially a grinding PPG centre who's elite on draws and has chemistry with any player they put beside him. Not flashy like Auston, but simply produces and is a workhorse.

Remember the people that wanted to give the C to Rielly?

I was one of the biggest Tavares haters this year but he has been really really solid recently. Playing like a top line C. Making plays and not turning it over as much has led to him scoring more and generating more chances.

Bounce back Tavares is bigger than any TDL acquisition we could have made.

Matthews, Nylander and Marner looked good yesterday too. Might be the first time ever all 4 guys are playing well at the same time.

This is the thing I've never understood about his haters. People were really hating on his skating. "He's too slow to play".

JT has ALWAYS been slow. He didn't get slow just this year. He was slow before he came here. He excels in spite of his slow speed because of his IQ, tremendous hands, and willingness to play in dirty areas. In general, these things don't just disappear after one season at the age of 30.

Players have good and bad streaks. Perhaps next time you should just chill. Through the tough times, try to remember that John Tavares is good at hockey.
