John Moore

This year's Moore is better than last year's Erixon.

No problem with Stralman or even Eminger though Stralman's the better player.

Don't like Del Zotto very much on the right side and right now I don't see him as a top pairing defenseman. I see him as a top 4 with very good (not great) puck moving skills. As a pwp point man he's okay--he handles and distributes the puck well but he doesn't have a great shot. That hurts his effectiveness. The Rangers need another d-man good on the pwp with a better (and accurate) shot.

Honestly I think all of our blueliners have above average shots, but the "game plan" (or at least what like..3/6 of them are told to do) is to try and bank it off the back boards for someone to pick up in front of the net. While people tend to say Girardi couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, it seems somewhat apparent that he's putting shots wide deliberately. If only we had legit and consistent net presence, it'd be a good strategy.

Holy balls, read my whole post.

I'm not saying Moore is better than DZ. I'm not saying that since Moore is playing the Rangers NEED to trade Del Zotto.

What I'm saying is that in a hypothetical scenario where the Rangers want to add a 1st rd pick this season, the SCENARIO of EXPLORING moving DZ has opened up because the Rangers now have more depth at the LHD position.

Read my whole ****ing post.

dudes played all of 57 minutes for this team and hes emerged and is now making guys expendable...seriously :faepalm:

dont get me wrong i like his game, his skating ability and his potential but this guy is still a very very raw talent.*

for everyone saying DZ's been horrible and needs to be moved think about how he was playing before and now after the staal injury, he clearly isnt cut out to play 25 minutes a game.

I agree with a lot of this.

Moore has shown real flashes but he hasnt made anyone expendable yet. Great option for the 3rd pair now (IMO) with room to grow. Nothing wrong with that.

Del Zotto, I agree, is not a guy you can count on game in and game out to play 25 min a night. Right now at least. Some nights he will handle it great, others he can easily cost you 2 points. Question the brass has to answer is will he ever get there, consistently? If not, can you justify paying him 4M+? If he had any ability to shoot he would be 100% untouchable for me. But that is a pretty big negative for an offensive D.

Stralman is what he is. Has nights where he is one of our best 2 dmen. Has nights where he gets outplayed by Eminger. Ok option for the 2nd pair, great option for the 3rd.

See lots of proposals moving Girardi. "All he does to log minutes is stand on the right side holding a stick", I believe I read on here.*IMO the D would be a house of horrors on a nightly basis (instead of the every 3-games basis it is now) with DZ and Stralman splitting his minutes on the right side.

Ive read it. It still makes no sense.

If Moore pans out, thats an added bonus for me. Its beyond way early to be framing it in the way you are.

Seriously. That dude flat out ruined McDonagh, Del Zotto, and Staal. Girardi wasn't even a freaking All-Star this year! :sarcasm:

Ha. Had the same reaction.

Until I remembered that anything associated with the 2 coaches is automatically and erroneously a bad thing for a lot of this board.

Flyers have an achilles heel--it's always their goaltending. Rangers have one too--since Leetch left they've never really found a d-man who could run a pwp and be a goal scoring threat at the same time. I'd rather have our problem than the Flyers problem.

And saying that the Rangers still have developed some very good to excellent defensemen in recent years. Moore at this point looks very promising--good size, great wheels, pays some attention to his own end, not shy about giving or receiving hits, can move the puck. The elements are there for him to be another at least very good defenseman.

I guess I'm explaining my thought process wrong here, so I'll just step aside and say never mind.

But don't you be surprised if DZ is dealt at the draft ;)

Yeah? Nope, not gonna happen.

DZ is just beginning to put a decent defensive game together. Now he has to tie the whole package together. Given the enormity of the dividend, at 22 years of age I think he should be given some time with that monumental task. Don't you?

Tortorella has said the 6-foot-3, 202-pound Moore, 22, needs to be more physical. So Moore has been working with assistant coach Mike Sullivan to try and improve.

“I’m a bigger guy so it’s using my skating and my size and shutting down cycles in the corner as well as I can,” Moore said. “Sully is doing a lot of video with me. With defense, in general, there are so many nuances with the position so it’s working on the positioning and footwork. If you just run in there at 100 mph, it’s going to be counter-intuitive.

Player development doesn't stop in the NHL. Sullivan helped develop McD and DZ in the NHL. Stralman became a much better player. Sauer too. The Rangers have a very good track record with young D. Schoenfeld is also on the ice during practice. Moore needs someone to teach him.

DZ is 5 months older than Moore. Mike Sullivan is helping Moore. They watch video everyday. Not really sure what Columbus does with their D because the majority of them were developed in other organizations. The Rangers have a good track record with the young D. The Rangers will work with him and develop him into a NHL D.

Especially JJ Daignault seemed to do a really thourgh job with the D's in HFD. The current regime seems to have helped Strålman alot.

One of the few players who looked good tonight. Made a McDonagh like side step at the blue line tonight as well. He needs to play more.

I do sometimes have a hard time distinguishing if it's Moore or mcD.

Then again, I sometimes mistake Clowe and Richards, because they both have a number 9 and skate slowly, but then Clowe makes a hit and I'm like, "No, it can't be Beaver."

Didn't really notice him, guess he's doing his job well as a bottom pair d-man.

Come on, you're watching with blinders on. Moore was one of the few bright spots tonight, and he's clearly shown some good upside in the games he's played.

Didn't notice him? He was probably our best defensemen tonight. He played with urgency, tried to make things happen in the offensive zone and played a great defensive game. How could you not notice him?

Because it doesn't mesh with his "opinions"

Don't think the team system wise played a bad game. There were a few blunders, but they did control the pace of the game tonight and just got some unlucky bounces. If they play like they did tonight, then they should be fine, but I worry for the lack of finishers. Moore was better than Eminger and maybe MDZ tonight. Either way, not much to draw conclusions from IMO. Need to see larger sample sizes.

:laugh::laugh:

But if he had a bad game, then what? 1 game is good enough?

Guys like McDonagh, Staal, MDZ and even Moore are thoroughbreads. Size, skating and skill.

Brian Leetch has stated the best advice he ever received as a rookie (later reinforced by Messier) was to do his own thing. Use his instincts. Stop worrying about making a mistake, because that is the mistake.

These guys know how to play defense. Got it. Thanks Torts and Sully. Now cut the cord and let these guys dictate the game at both ends of the ice.

Any Devils fan will tell you the best thing that happened to Niedermayer was Lemaire swallowing his pride and letting Niedermayer start dominating both ends of the ice.
