I will be visibly unhappy when he starts taking Hayton's ice.
If he plays better than Hayton, you have a lot more problems than Hayden...I will be visibly unhappy when he starts taking Hayton's ice.
We have Dvo, Stepan, Hayden competing with him for ice time right now. If he can't get top nine time, I'd rather him be in Tucson. And frankly, he's done nothing to show me that he's ready for top nine ice time.Yes because Coyotes' coaches have a history of giving ice to those that deserve it or need it for long term development and not giving it to their pets.
Even worse for Hayton if he can't get a center spot...I don’t think Hayden will be playing center.
They invested 5th overall in a guy to be a huge part of their future. They aren't making the playoffs or contending any time soon. He isn't going to learn much more in the pressbox or in the AHL if the AHL even plays. Time to sink or swim with for the year and let him learn in the big leagues on the ice. Sort of like most other teams do with their star prospects. We have Dvo, Stepan, Hayden competing with him for ice time right now. If he can't get top nine time, I'd rather him be in Tucson. Listen, Tocchet is an idiot and what they did to Hayton last year was idiotic. Chayka allowing it to happen was also idiotic.
I haven't seen anything that suggests he's ready to be penciled in for top nine minutes on an NHL club. He should have every opportunity to EARN a job and keep it on a squad that is this thin on centers. We also finally have a GM who specifically mentioned he believes in on-the-job training and development, and part of his job is to get the coach on board. I'm not really worried about Tocchet. I'm worried about Hayton.
Assuming Pietrangelo goes elsewhere and STL isn’t interesting in Overpaying one-dimensional types, I think @_Del_ ’s Goligoski for Bozak idea could really make sense. There's no money to pay a 2C unless you find a swap for Goligoski, which seems extremely unlikely given the rarity of passable centers.
Tocchet will need to find a way to make Hayton work, most likely on a sheltered 2nd line with Garland and Kessel.

Goligoski is good on the right side, can eat a ton of minutes, and plays in all situations. And he’s relatively cheap and has an expiring deal.I don't really see the St Louis appetite for that.

It’s a good proposal.They've got Peron-Steen-Kryou (+Tarasenko?) on the rightside
They've got O'Reilly-Schen- Sundqvist- Thomas down the middle
They've got Parayako, Scandella, Dunn, Faulk, Bortuzzo, Gunnerson on D.
They could add 35 pts from the blueline who can play eitherside on not miss a beat with forward depth.

Bozak is the Goligoski of centers and he’s redundant in STL. They’ve got a bunch of centers. He’s good on draws and right handed but he didn’t play center a ton. They’ve got to get Thomas more opportunities despite being buried behind ROR and Schenn. Bozak dropped to 9th on EVTOI/GP, 6th on PPTOI/GO, and 5th on PKTOI/GP.
They’re extremely similar players in very similar situations. STL gets more out of Goligoski and we get more out of Bozak.
