What is tough to know about Gibson is if he is elite when not peppered with shots or was this just a vintage Gibson performance.

I’m thinking that he can still perform at close to an elite level on a team that limits the number of shots aganst either by shutting down, or blocking, opposing team’s shot attempts.

Unfortunately that is not going to happen with the Ducks.

I don’t know if he will ever be that elite level but I can still see him being a .915/.920 Save% on a solid team. When he is on his game he looks like a wall, but the bad games he looks like Swiss cheese. Lol.

The Vegas and Dallas game he was on his game but against the Flyers was meh, that one goal he gave up was, woof.

I get his frustration with the D in front of him and I hope Anaheim can get better D in front of him while he is still in his prime.

I love his style and for that alone I hope he remains a Duck for life. I also hope we get to see him when this team becomes competitive again.

I still support Gibson , although excited about Dostal. I hope they can at least get a decent D in front of him within the next two years. Feel like they are wasting his prime years.

When he is dialed in he is very good and I get his frustration.

I'm super excited about Dostal as well and I'm glad he has been given time to develop in lower leagues while getting a taste of the NHL. He showed up well when he was needed this season already. I think he's ready to give serious competition for the no. 1 spot in a couple of years. I'm sure he will push Gibson to be better as well.

A little goalie competition will be good for this team in a couple of years, but they gotta fix this D and sadly won’t happen overnight.

Gibby now at .902 is remarkable and a lot of other fan bases are agreeing to that. Need to fix this D and give him some competitive seasons here in Anaheim.

Verbeek: “No, I am not considering moving John Gibson. I actually sat down with him and had a conversation with John Gibson about this. We have an excellent number one goaltender. The hardest thing in the NHL is finding a number one goaltender. I speak from this with experience because when we were in Tampa we did not have a number one goaltender and we gave up numerous assets trying to chase to get one. Finally we were able to draft one with Andrei Vasilevskiy and so when you have one you don’t give him up unless you got another one that is coming behind. At this point we are very young with our goaltenders and certainly we are not at that stage to have anyone take on Gibson’s position at number one.”

I’m happy he sat down with Gibby. I just hope he can bring in some stop gap D to support him and Fowler and Drysdale next season.

I think our forward group will progress and will only help that with a decent Top 4 D and not what we are icing now.

Not sure if it is Verbeek, or ???, but there has been a definite change in Gibson’s demeanor and attitude from previous years.

He is getting peppered, has little defense on front of him, but he is still engaged and playing tough as the season winds along.

He not demonstrating that ripe-early-spoil-late curve. He actually seems more content despite the circumstances.

Really impressed how he is handling things.

He was great to start last season, then after the ASG something happened. It’s actually interesting to note, Shesterkin for the Rangers since back from the ASG has really struggled. Does the ASG really have that effect on some goalies?

But yeah Gibby has been great, really want to get a better team in front of him, but I know it’s not going to happen overnight sadly.

They brought in sustr and Harrington, Gibby has all the support he could ever dream of.

LOL, obviously you were being sarcastic. I hope Verbeek makes it priority to help support Drysdale and Fowler. Not concerned about the forward group right now, have Zegras, McTavish, Terry, and Rico, plus a Top 5 pick who should be close to NHL ready.

For the Ducks John Gibson goalie ranks are
3rd all time in games played
2nd all time in wins
1st all time in saves
3rd all time in shutouts

Man how time has flown by.

Is he objectively our best goalie?

I mean, despite having only 3rd most games, he has made the most saves (so he has had the roughest path of our top-3) and actually has the 2nd most wins.
He only lacks the hardware. It could had been different had we traded our 1st (Larsson) pick for Vermette in 2015... who knows.

Should probably be considered the best due to longevity, but it's hard top peak Giggy.

Giggy
Gibby....Ducks need to recognize this pattern and draft accordingly. Our next great goalie will be a Gilly or Ginny.
