HF rates us as 10th for prospects, weak on wing... look it up...

In the end this poster says our goal tending is sub par, offense is subpar and management is subpar.... Our defense is our strength including Wis... If they trade Wis he will be the scape goat!!!

yeah believe everything you read on the internet because HF is known for being 100% right 100% of the time. Bjorkstrand and Milano with skill and top 6 potential, Rychel with decent skill and grit with top 6 potential, Anderson with grit and possible 3rd line guy but more likely energy 4th liner plus Dano will probably be a wing in the NHL. Its fine if you want to quote HF just because it helps try and prove your point.
I know there have been a lot of people say look at Detroit last year (not just here but in general) where the young guys stepped in when they had all their injuries but they have had great management and such a good team for so long that their young guys sit in the minors for 3+ years and are 100% ready. Management is trying to build something like that but it doesnt happen in 1 or 2 years (this is also not an invite for anyone to make incredibly annoying Wennberg comments)

How are we weak on the wing? All of our top prospects are wingers? Dano, Rychel, Milano and Bjorkstand all have top 6 wing potential. And its possible that Wennberg and Jenner become full time wingers.

Not to mention Heatherington and Reilly are looking like top 4 dmen if they pan out. I dont really put much stock into HFs rankings.

Dano and Milano are considered center prospects. I'm not surprised we're rated a bit lower, however. None of our guys are considered elite prospects; however I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Milano ends up surprising most of the league. It's a shame that Plymouth is such a bad team.

You can't expect injuries (Horton is an exception). JD has done his best, and it's a really fantastic job. I can't think of any other team that has had a bigger shift in culture and just overall talent.

I don't think anyone knows the agony that I experience every time I see a post like this and decide not to respond to it.

Whats crazy is hes still top 20 in scoring while playing about 20 less games than anyone else in the top 20. Except Mcdavid who has like 3 more games and something like 30 more points

CBJ lack wing prospects, the guys that score..

CBJ need depth and organization.... depth is what Detroit thrives on...

Because they have built it over many years... thats why Jarmo likes his draft picks, he wants to do what he's comfortable with and stock up the prospect pool the best he can and create competition so they can do what a team like Detroit does and leave young guys down in the minors for a couple years atleast

Yes, of course.

Building and developing a team takes time, folks. He hasn't been on the job 2.5 years yet for goodness sakes. Even still, he's added a level of legitimacy that this organization has never had previously.

The 'blame game' is getting downright silly in here. The last thing this organization needs is a change at the top.

:help::shakehead:help::shakehead

Exactly this

So, 25th in the NHL after TWO seasons under CBJ President John Davidson; as a fan, is that what you expected?

What would you have said after last year? Also, SO MUCH more goes into the evaluation. It is posts like this that is making this board so hard to read anymore.

Very good points in your post except the above. Unless you're some kind of soothsayer, I think it's pretty tough to judge a guy on what you think will happen.

Was it really short-sighted? Or was it the best way to get the most out of a young player who had plenty more to give. Time will tell, but I think it's kind of silly to think he'll walk. Did Bob?

Exactly. Maybe, just maybe, Ryan is playing this well because he is motivated. He might not be playing this well if he got a big payday. We don't know. Also, I will decide if his last contract was good or not based on what his next contract is.

Thanks to the first bolded.

Yes, to the second bolded:laugh:

Bob was still an RFA.

I argued ad nauseam over the summer as to why Johansen should have been signed to a 6 year deal. Not going to revisit it now beyond this brief cap analysis.

I just look at it this way. Had he been signed to a 6 year at $6.5 per, we'd be looking at this:

2015-16, 16-17,17-18,18-19,19-20 at $6.5 million for Johansen.

Now we're looking at

15-16...............$3 million
16-17 ..............$6 million
17-18...............$8 million minimum
18-19 on.............?????????????????

Even if he resigns with the Jackets, his salary will likely throw a wrench in the salary cap starting in 17-18 where a long term deal would have delayed that unitl 2020-21. 3 years of potential cap issues which could have been avoided.

What would we have had to pay him after his 6 year contract to keep him?

Can you explain to me how we lack wing prospects who can score.

Because they have built it over many years... thats why Jarmo likes his draft picks, he wants to do what he's comfortable with and stock up the prospect pool the best he can and create competition so they can do what a team like Detroit does and leave young guys down in the minors for a couple years atleast

Simple question, is CBJ President John Davidson giving you as a fan what you expected?

Yes. I like the direction of the team. And I still enjoy the CBJ STH fan experience.

There has been 2 playoffs runs, and this year has been an exception for various reasons, mostly injuries to key players.

I'm not quite sold on Jarmo, I think he still has a ways to prove himself.

The real question is. was that JD's strategy or what it JK's and JD backed his GM? There was obviously something that JK, and possibly JD, wanted to see from Johansen before they committed to a long term deal (but let's not forget they did offer him one, which their agent rejected).

I cannot provide link, but I distinctly remember:
"Fine. Prove it. Make us pay. We will gladly pay. We will be happy to pay. But prove it."
They asked for it. I will not be sad to see Ryan's agent demand it when the time comes.
When it is time, find that quote, wrap it around a baseball bat and beat the FO with it.

One thought: what will the cap be in four years? Top talent will always demand the top contracts. Pressure against the cap will always be there, regardless of the $.

Is this type of attitude really necessary? Very contentious for something that is none of our business. As the saying goes, neither of us had any skin in this game.

Please explain why, if the quote is "We will gladly pay," the FO would need to be struck in such a fashion.

This grabbed my attention... Rychel, Bjorkstrand, Milano have done nothing but score. Dano has not put up numbers, but I can't help but see an extremely effective player that will be in the top 9 for 10+ years. Rychel had three consecutive OHL seasons. Bjorkstrand on his way to two consecutive 50 goal, 100 point seasons in the WHL. Milano put up outstanding numbers in his draft year and now is scoring at a top 20 clip in the OHL, while outscoring all of his teammates by 15 points. All of these players have 20 goal, 50 + potential, if we are being conservative.

To a lesser extent, Anderson is pretty much a sure thing as a bottom six guy. Zaar is having a very good season in the SHL with 25 points, 4th in team scoring (1st is 30 points).

We have never had better wing prospects. And we are about to add a prospect that could be better than any of these players, as a top 10 pick is almost certain in a very good top-end draft.

This is the second post in which I've seen someone lump center prospects in with wings.

WHAT, YOU THINK THAT BECAUSE IT'S NOT ON THE ICE THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY THE PRICE? IN HOCKEY, YOU GOTTA PAY THE PRICE. IF YOU CAN'T BEAT 'EM IN THE ALLEY, YOU CAN'T BEAT 'EM ON THE ICE.

BACK WHEN I PLAYED IN HERSHEY, WE HAD A GUY WHO HAD A BONUS IN HIS CONTRACT IF HE SCORED 30 GOALS. HE GOT TO 28 AND THEY STARTED BENCHING HIM SO HE WOULDN'T GET THE BONUS. THEN AT THE END OF THE YEAR THEY TRIED TO SIGN HIM TO A NEW CONTRACT FOR LESS THAN HE WAS MAKING ALREADY. SO HE LOOKED OVER AT ME AND SAID "GRAPES, I GOTTA FIGHT FOR A RAISE." SO HE WENT UP THERE WITH ONE OF HIS STICKS, AND IT WAS AN OLD NORTHLAND STICK THAT FELT LIKE YOU WERE PLAYING WITH CONCRETE. NOT LIKE ONE OF THOSE COMPOSITES THAT EUROS ARE RUINING THE GAME WITH TODAY. YOU GOTTA BE OUTTA YOUR MIND TO SPEND $200 ON A STICK. I GREW UP WITH ONE THAT COST MY DAD $3, AND WHEN I BROKE IT AFTER TWO YEARS OF DAILY USE HE MADE ME GO CUT A TREE DOWN AND MAKE MY OWN.

ANYWAY, SO HE COMES BACK DOWN FROM THE TEAM OFFICE ALL OUTTA BREATH AND HE'S GOT BLOOD ON HIS SHIRT, AND HE SAID "GRAPES, I GOT A $100 RAISE." SO WE'RE SITTING THERE, AND NEXT THING YOU KNOW TWO COPS COME IN AND ARREST HIM. THAT'S WHY YOU GOTTA PAY THE PRICE IF YOU WANT TO GET AHEAD IN HOCKEY. BUT LEMME TELL YA SOMETHING ELSE. HE ENDED UP SCORING 40 GOALS THE NEXT YEAR IN THE PRISON LEAGUE HE WAS PLAYING IN. WHEN I WAS COACHING THE BRUINS I TRIED TO LOOK HIM UP TO SIGN HIM TO A CONTRACT, BUT THEY SAID HE COULDN'T PLAY ANY MORE AFTER HE GOT SHANKED IN A CAFETERIA BRAWL. I SAID THAT HE'S JUST THE KINDA GUY I WANT ON MY TEAM, BUT THEY STILL WOULDN'T LET HIM PLAY.[/CherryMode]
