Mets deal with SNY ends in 2030 I believe (maybe 2035?). I can definitely see Steve Cohen creating his own network. As it stands now, SNY doesn't share much profit with the Mets. Which is pretty much antithetical to having a regional sports network owned by the (at the time) teams owners.
I'd be surprised if RSNs still exist in 10 years, even as streamers of some kind.

The model that's made sports teams rich is dying. The RSNs were bundled with a bunch of other channels. If you only cared about one of those channels, didn't matter, you got them all and the cable company charged for all of them. So the RSNs got 10 subs even if only 3 of the 10 actually wanted them. In addition to the ad revenue, this sub model is what drove their profits.

When they go to all streaming, it will just be those 3 of the 10 buying (the ones who actually watch the product), and they'll lose the other 7 subs' revenue.

Teams are going to need to figure out something else to make their money.

I think only the NFL will be impervious to this, as they have no local RSN deals and it's all national OTA broadcast for all games, which the MLB, NHL and NBA don't have.
Collins coming and taking a minor ownership interest is to set him up for NHL ownership in the future. The Isles have embedded themselves in the top of the NHL with Lou and Collins. Also, another reason Lou ain’t going anywhere because Lou keeps the Isles in that circle. Collins is going to drive business to increase the valuation of the franchise. His ownership interest is to get him in the door towards leading an ownership group down the line as the NHL looks very favorably on minority owners when evaluating new ownership groups in team sale transactions. Malkin probably exits 2-3 years after the retail is completed as Value Retail can still manage the retail village independently of the team/UBS. And the entire property will have lofty numbers. Essentially, a sale of the Islanders more than pays for the village development, it’s ‘free’ due to increase in franchise value.
So here is my question let’s say Malkin sells. Does that mean we get no profit from the retail village?

Retail village is owned and operated by Value Retail - it has nothing to do with the Islanders.
