From what I understand, this was an unfilled position.

What I want to know is how much of the team did he purchase?

IMO, this is about further developing the retail area and how they can create synergies and extra revenues around the team, the arena and the retail development.

He was very well-respected in the NHL offices and was considered an innovator and business guru. Good that he's buying a piece of the team, extra incentive.

It's so nice to have professional grown-ups in charge. :)

I've been waiting to see what they do with surrounding area. his is off memory but Bettman said he met with Malkin to go over future Isles events (Draft/ASG) at the UBS Arena and they both agreed not until work was done in the surrounding area I.E Bars, hotels and restaurant development.

I'd imagine this guy is going to oversee that. I hope he does more marketing too, wouldn't mind seeing a grassroots Isles bar idea of giving bars merch, promotional items and money for discounts on Isles games to promote LI gameday atmosphere. Doesn't have to just be bars but that feeling of seeing someone at the gym rocking Isles apparel is always nice when you're out, when I was in Vegas there was Golden Knights apparel everywhere. Was great marketing.

He was the NHL's #3 guy behind only Gary and Bill when he was there. I'm sure he's got some juice to get some future events and then some.

He created the outdoor stuff, but was also instrumental in the TV deals and a big $300M+ sponsorship deal the NHL had with Coors, I believe. His last company was all about creating and selling premium sports event packages. He sounds like a guy who philosophically aligns with the high-end experience Malkin brands all his retail stuff around.

I'm really stoked that he's not only a team exec but a part owner. IMO, after years of being in the basement and 3rd rate, penny ante franchise, it feels like these guys are going to make the team a prime business entity.

I wonder if he invested $$ in the team or if he is getting a stake as part of his compensation package? That gives him incentive to increase the value of the team. Anyway, seems like a great hire. Also could free up Malkin to focus more on the retail village, etc..

I drove by a few weeks ago and it seemed like the construction in the surrounding area was moving along pretty quickly from when I was there in February/March.

Wonder when the MSG deal is up? Did that happen already?
