Leafs just got a #1 RHD for a 5th?

And then they add mckenna on top of that for free?

I enjoyed that my team was the best Canadian team for a single year. Congrats leaf fans, your team is going to be exciting to watch next season.
Basically adding Tanev too. He was out all last year.

What do you think the purpose of analytics is, exactly?

To let geeks and career house league ankle-burner think they're part of the game? To let them feel smarter than the jocks who stuffed them in lockers all through high school?

Joking aside, those twits actually think 'expected' is a valid metric. What actually happens matters, expected doesn't mean jack shit. In 2023 the Argos tied the CFL league record for the best regular season record ever, at 16-2. They were expected to roll through the playoffs and to win their 19th Grey Cup because they had been so dominant all season. But they hadn't played a game that mattered in two months and their brains broke when they faced a little adversity in the Eastern Final (I was there, it was horrible to watch). They ended up losing that game (funnily enough, the same had happened to the previous team that went 16-2 in the regular season as they lost in the Western FInal). What did 'expected' or any other stats mean then eh? F**k all. Based on how they finished last season (inches away from winning the World Series) the Jays were expected to be one of the best teams in baseball this year. How is that working out for them thus far? Not well at all. 'Expected' means nothing.

Leafs fans don’t take advice from Coyotes fans. That would be like asking your toddler to help with your finances. Sorry, not sorry.

No need to take our advice, you hired our old GM. He's the toddler that will now help with your finances. Sorry, not sorry.

Also I wasn't giving any advice to Leafs fans, but maybe you missed that part. Sorry, not sorry about that too

Thankfull

Thankfully Toronto isn't a poverty franchise and will be just fine if he crashes and burns. How's your team doing btw...

Too early to judge, let's see how he rebuilds the entire Leafs D core. If he can move Morgan Rielly this summer, that's already a win unless it's Nurse coming back

How has Stolarz done?
I see he’s cracked 30 games once in his career and had a .893 save percentage in his 26 games last year.

So they picked one of their two goalies who can’t stay healthy and underperformed last year and traded them. Oh the horror. Lock Chayka up.

Fancy stats in hockey mean very little. Plenty of bad players have good numbers and plenty of good players have bad numbers in the fancy stats.

Outliers exist but in general this simply isn’t true. Good things tend to happen when good players are on the ice. Bad things tend to happen when bad players are on the ice.

There’s definitely sheltered players who can’t keep it up in bigger roles. Doesn’t necessarily mean they’re bad, their results are their results, they just don’t progress. Occasionally you’ll get a team so terribly coached that everyone looks brutal. That tends not to last and it’s pretty easy to spot.

You can tell good from bad players by watching. No fancy stats needed to tell you if someone is good or not.

As I said in a thread on the Maple Leafs board, Chayka is at least willing to do things that are required to be done.

He's not afraid to make moves. Treliving seemed very hesitant to make any and seemed to constantly delay until he was forced into making bad/questionable moves or getting less value than he could have gotten.

Chayka is taking an analytical approach (as expected), and while some agree with it and others don't, I don't think you can say the man isn't at least taking an aggressive approach toward cleaning up the mess that Treliving left him.
