Hahaha, who said I thought he was the main piece, those words were never uttered.

That is the inference when he's the first piece you mention while simultaneously ignoring the other two objectively better assets.

Ersson was essentially a throw in, yet you posted this gem :

For who they got is the bad part. Ersson has bad numbers for 1990.

A 2nd and a 4th for a starting goalie is peanuts. Woll is not in Gibson's category so not sure why you bring that up.
That's his point...

The Leafs traded Woll and Benoit for Andrae, Ersson, and a 3rd.

Andrae is better than Benoit, so that's an upgrade. The Leafs also got a 3rd, so if you want to say that that was for Woll, then doesn't that return sort of make sense since a somewhat comparable goalie trade was a 2nd + 4th for Gibson and Gibson is better than Woll?

No, he was mentioned cause he sticks out like a sore thumb when a good goalie was moved out.

If you think a 3rd or Andrae is something to be excited about, good for you. If I was a Leafs fan, I would not like that move.

No he doesn't, he's an RFA who the Leafs can literally simply choose not to qualify with a couple of potential reasons for being included

1) The Leafs are looking at him as a possible backup for the Marlies next season

2) The Flyers wanted to include him for contractual reasons and/or wanted to move out a goalie.

I do think a third round pick, a bottom pairing 24 year old puck moving Defenseman along with 5 mil in cap space is a fine return for an inconsistent, injury prone goalie.

The Leafs had to move a goalie, you can't force teams to overpay.....they got fine value.

Is Andrae better? He played 15 minutes a game, and Benoit 17. At best they are even right now. Maybe Andrae improves, but that is only a maybe.

Gibson is far better than Woll. Woll has never been a starter for one.

Fancy stats in hockey mean very little. Plenty of bad players have good numbers and plenty of good players have bad numbers in the fancy stats. There is way too much happening in any given shift when the puck can be anywhere or with anyone a lot on each and every shift. Lots of what each and every player has to deal with is what others are also doing, which is hard thing to get a read on with shots for and against and chances for and against which is mostly what those numbers are about.

Analytics works better in MLB where you hit and field on your own.

Hello --

So far it's the first offseason of John Chayka and his first two moves are inexplicably trading Woll and inexplicably hiring Jim Hiller as head coach. Or maybe we could start with Keith Pelley and the Leafs inexplicably hiring John Chayka as GM in the first place.

I was a Yotes fan for many years and Chayka did things like this constantly during his tenure there, not to mention his off the board drafting of guys like Hayton, trading up for Soderstrom so he could pass on Caufield etc. After his performance in AZ I'm truly surprised that he got another job in the league, let alone as GM of the Leafs.

Anyway, to me this guy seems like he's still the same. Who would've thought all those in between years running Wendy's franchises wouldn't actually make him a better GM
Leafs fans don’t take advice from Coyotes fans. That would be like asking your toddler to help with your finances. Sorry, not sorry.

Guy makes one trade and hires a coach and that is enough for you to say he's still the exact same

Guess the boards needed another shit on the leafs thread.

OP was a Coyotes fan like me. I know him pretty well. I can say with a reasonable amount of confidence that he'd have made the same thread about John Chayka if he'd been hired by any of the other teams, so it doesn't really have much to do with the Leafs other than happenstance.

Posted this in the Leafs subforum. Thought it was relevant here. The Leafs needs and expendable assets this offseason were:

Needs: RHD, PP point shot, defensive mobility, draft capitol
Expendable assets: Slow depth defenders, a 1B goalie, cap space

Here's what Chayka's done in 2 moves:

In: Raddysh, Andrae, 3rd
Out: Benoit, Woll, cap space

I like the moves so far. They're clearly addressing the right needs. And, to be frank, I don't think the GM of any other team would be getting instant and constant hate after like 3 weeks on the job and one trade. Only because it's the Leafs.

You keep missing the point, which is that Andrae is a better fit than Benoit. Chayka has emphasized the need to acquire defensemen who could move the puck to retool the blue line.

Honestly crazy after 60 years of embarrassment, you think everyone else is the problem. Hilarious really. People are skeptical of the disgraced former GM and Wendy’s manager. Who would’ve thought!
