What did you want him to do? Call the cops?

Kyle beech couldn’t have done that himself, no?

I’ll never understand that. As a person in management, I’ve had employees call me and ask me to call the cops for them or an ambulance for them.

It didn’t make sense to me then and it makes less sense to me now.

“Strangle, call 911! I just got assaulted!”

f***, man what are you calling me for? YOU CALL THE f***ING COPS, you idiot
Your post demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of rape and the power imbalances that go along with it. We can only hope you are either trolling, or will take steps to ensure that future posts show some kind of understanding of the subject matter.

That @Voight liked your post means my words apply equally to that poster and their incredibly poor choice of assigning likes.

Am I surprised by the volume and stupidity of the rape apologism that appears in this thread? Sadly, I am not.

Disappointed as always, but never surprised.

If you wrote a letter of recommendation for a guy you know tried to rape a player so that he could work at a college, you don't deserve to be in the NHL you deserve to be in jail.
I see this a lot. This never happened. It's just completely false. It was erroneously reported early on, and everyone goes back to it.

What happened is bad enough, so let's not resort to using falsehoods.

My partner works for a very big organization that has a dynamic where many people will spend extensive time away from home at hotels.

Things happen. She's had to terminate a number of folks over the years.

Way it goes is...

If there's a complaint of this nature there's an immediate investigation. If something like dirty texts are found (which has happened) that's it. That person will be escorted out within hours and the termination is coded as "misconduct."

If something worse happens, the victim is given consultation on contacting the police and an internal case worker if necessary. But it's 100% up to the victim in a situation where nothing can be proven.

The Blackhawks, my team, clearly didn't have a functioning checks/balances apparatus. Sometimes it's HR, sometimes HR responsibilities are delegated to upper management. That's how a dirty old boys club runs things, they're above their own HR/Peers.

Of course, there IS another side here which is the "holier than thou" crowd. NHL is a sports league, lots of money, jacked athletes, some level of fame. Not just a bunch of random employees. These people are on the road all the time. Consumption happens, drugs, etc on top of everything else. The lifestyle is literally a kettle pot often about to boil.

The fact that the majority of time you hear about this stuff is when the police are called or when lawyers go straight to the media?

That should tell you that YOUR favorite organization likely had some things quietly taken care of over the years. There's a near zero chance the Kyle Beach incident exists in a vacuum. Usually these things go to quiet payouts, NDA's, et cetera, and everyone moves on. The Beach incident became a public spectacle many years after it occurred.

Quenneville could get a job in another league. I'm pretty sure some of KHL teams could have paid him very good money. But he wasn't looking for another job so I think it means he was promised that his NHL ban wouldn't last too long.

This whole affair is a great example of power dynamics and how this stuff happens in the first place. Player is threatened with his future and told that he won’t be believed, his career will get screwed. The fear is he reports it, nothing happens etc.

The only reason that this scum bag gets outed for Kyle Beach is a lawsuit against another victim. The other victim was young enough where his parents could advocate and deal with it.Everyone forgets that… they all thought this was in the rear view mirror.

The people that should have been accountable for protecting Beach are now allowed back into the game. Once again they can be responsible for the well being of young players, despite failing horribly on their primary responsibility. If you need to ‘learn’ that you need to properly deal with sexual assault or inappropriate conduct then you aren’t fit for the job anyway. This wasn’t ok in 2010 (whenever it was) and it’s not ok now.

This is why things get don’t reported. God forbid there is another victim in a similar spot in the future but they won’t be thinking they’ll be properly supported. What if Quenneville is the head coach? Would an 18 year old kid feel they could go to him? Highly unlikely.

Do you understand the concept of being punished, learning from a mistake and then being a better person for it?
Life isn't always perfect and neither are you.
The Blackhawks absolutely could have done things better no doubt about it.
The real injustice is posters who feel the need to puff out their chests and out virtue each other, all the while the real dick in this is ,the video coach who goes unnoticed because of a weird superiority kick that some folks go on attempting to prove to everyone they are outraged.
Grow up.
The problem is that the way they chose to handle it indirectly lead to the sexual assault of another that know of. Abusers of this nature are usually serial in nature so hopefully there are not more. The butterfly effect of the negligent response goes beyond the damage they did to Kyle Beach.

The fact they did nothing will have emotionally damage Beach nearly as much as the assault. I know this from painful experience, witnessing a loved one not be believed and later proven to be truthful. It will have taken a huge amount of strength to report it and to see nothing done will have had huge consequences. Many victims don’t/can’t report it for years until they are much older.. Sheldon Kennedy and Theo Fleury being notable hockey examples.

So no the video coach doesn’t go unnoticed, it’s just that he’s the only one nobody is trying to defend.

It's quite misleading to say 'no action was taken' by a man who has no obligation to take action, and is not the ideal person who should be taking action on the matter. I think framing him and other people on the team as willing participants in the cover up is an attack job simply because it infers that they are in a management position with the powers and duties to take action.

I read it, just did a little more critical thinking with the information I was armed with instead of taking things at face value.
Of course it is his obligation. Day 1 of the coaching course … ‘safe guarding’. We spent more time on that side of it on day 1 than in anything related to the sport. That was in 2001…

They are all accountable and responsible and have a duty of care. A moral responsibility and in most ‘western countries ‘ a legal one.

Q met with Kyle Beach recently and got his ok to return as per Biz on Spitting Chiclets
I’m glad for Beach as that’s an important part of his healing but that doesn’t mean they should be reinstated.

This league showing time and time again it is an absolutely joke of a f***ing carny show.

These assholes should’ve been banned/blackballed for life….

Seriously?? Why do we continue to support this flaming shitbag of a league?? I get that we all love hockey, but goddamn
Maybe stop asking why?.....and just stop supporting and watching.
Maybe lots and lots of others already have. With ease.

Cheers and Go Habs

The outrage here is unreal, man. Listen, Q made a mistake in how he handled it. That doesn’t define him as a human being in my eyes. A mistake shouldn’t define you. I don't think he thinks rape is ok. I have made mistakes in handling certain situations, so did every one of you here taking this moral grand stand. He paid the price for his mistake, doesn’t mean he has to keep paying for it for the rest of his life.

There has been no ‘rape apologists’ in this thread

Your misunderstanding of what that word means is astoundingly loud

A day after the NHL made him eligible for employment, Brian Burke told NHL Network Radio that Joel Quenneville should go "to the front of the list of every team that is looking for a head coach."

"I thought this went a little long," Burke told NHL Network Radio. "I made that clear to the league, but I think it's the right result. And I'm happy for the two guys — the three guys — involved. They're all good guys. And they all should be back in the game soon. I really do believe — and I'm not going to get into right or wrong — but I really do believe there's some miscommunication here. I'll leave it at that."

***

This is the NHL and all teams care about is winning. But, while winning is the goal, there are some teams that just don't want to deal with the "baggage" that would come with hiring Coach Q. But there are also teams that don't care, and will consider hiring Coach Q. But, it's not just hiring a coach... do the players you have on your team want to play for this coach?

Each team will have to decide on this.

Coaching in the NHL privilege that these people don’t deserve. What price did he pay?

Getting to coach in the NHL isn't an inalienable right. Q is free to do anything that a sixty year old millionaire would like to do.

That's actually a good point. The guy's already conclusively proven he won't have your back on something as dire as sexual assault by one of his subordinates. That can't be good for player morale.

He’s probably the guy most likely to be hypersensitive to anything even remotely approaching inappropriate now
