Question…would you have rather signed farabee to a beau villager contract or to this?

Those famous words by Beau Villagé, just a rang out in my head when I pondered the answer to this question.

“Young man there's a place you can go
I said young man when you're short on your dough
You can stay there and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.”

Not bad. Think this is decent all around but not sure the chances of Joel greatly outperforming this contract to the extent it would be a "steal". Hopefully he keeps improving though

Jvr can be traded too tho and that should help

Hopefully. Hope a team can take a 7M cap hit for one year for cheap. Also, after this season, Hayes's NMC turns into a M-NTC (12 teams). So he might be tradable too.

Giroux-Couts-Atkinson
Farabee-Hayes-Konecny
Lindblom-Frost-Allison
Laughton-xxxx-xxxx

Provy-Ellis
Sanheim-Risto (bet your ass that he gets re-signed)
York-xxxx
xxxx

Hart
xxxx

Something like that can work.

Bold of you to assume Frost is ready to be a 3C next year

I'll be honest, the vast majority of moves by Fletcher this offseason aren't bad. Couts and Farabee extensions are great. Ellis trade was good. Brassard signing was good. Fine with swapping Vorack for Atkinson. Having to pay to dump Ghost sucked but his market was what it was. Thompson signing stinks but that's more because of AV's inevitable usage than an issue with signing a depth 4C in the abstract.

It's just the absurd Ristolainen trade that overshadows everything. Like if Larsson didn't sign with Seattle and we got him instead for the same deal or even a little higher, it would have been a really impressive offseason. Or the same trade package for Connor Murphy along with the extension he just signed.

But he didn't. And that one move was bad enough to spoil everything else for me.

I mean he isn’t wrong. We all said tk was a steal and it hasn’t looked that way thus far. Hopefully tk can bounce back and him/farabee can excel going forward

Even if Konecny doesn't become more than a 2nd line player, it would still be a good deal and even if Provy doesn't become more than a 2D, it would still be a good contract, too.

I like the deal but I also know he’s not going to keep shooting at 17%

But Konecny already proved he's legit TOP liner at that time.

Farabee didn't yet. Let's hope he'll prove it too.
Farabee had a better season than Konecny had before TK signed his extension. Farabee also spent significant time on the first line with Couturier, acquitting himself quite well. Granted, TK had two seasons of upper-40 points production, so maybe less of a risk.

But it's clear they think very highly of Farabee, and at only age 21, entering his 3rd season, and still gaining strength, it seems likely he'll continue to progress and that his 20-year-old season won't be some kind of outlier. Certainly worth the risk to lock him at what should be a reasonable cap hit.

If you wait to sign him, there's a significant chance you end up costing yourself cap space you could have saved. They believe in him, and so they pounced. "Don't get caught watching the paint dry."

TK led the team in scoring in the first year of his contract. If him and Provorov had been bridged, the AAV on their next deals would be higher than what they are making now

Konecny is absolutely fine. He was great in 19-20, very good in the last season (just unlucky in finishing).

Buffalo are still below the cap floor m, but Chuck couldn’t get them to retain even a measly million on Risto.

agree. all the bad stuff Chuck has done has at least been short term. Thompson, Jones, and Risto are the 3 questionable adds and they're all pending UFA's. Jones and Thompson likely won't be back so it remains to be seen what will happen with Risto's next contract (which we all know will happen). i'm a little worried there but the outlook is nowhere near as bleak as some want to paint.

honestly, i'm more worried about the coaching than i am the roster. roster looks good, but i have zero faith in the coaching staff to be able to bring the best of it out.
