The best Columbus could do was a struggling 25 years old Domi with only one good season in the NHL. When KH was named Anderson was worth less than what he was worth in Columbus because of age, contract and performance. I agree with you i doubt even a 1st was offered. Winning team surely did not want this contract and losing team would not have offered a 1st for him. He's been overrated by our fan base for a while he's never been really good.

Armia mentioned it to the press and Radio-Canada had an articles a few days ago about it and his newfound confidences (and what was the issues mentally before consulting). Getting demoted might have pushed him to consult thought.

Agreed but there may have been GM's out there who overrated him because of his size.

I never doubted his game. It translates well against all types of teams if he's on top of his game.

Consistency and health were the two big drawbacks.
 
This is Joel Armia. Though I don't remember him for that extent period of time but....this is a period with no stress, nothing to play for so....I reserve my right to judgment. I'd be surprise though if he FINALLY gets it.

But we were told that he's now working with a psychologist......so.....we never know.
 
He's making it tempting to re-sign if he'd be willing to sign at a huge discount ~2M or less on a 1-2 year deal. Only thing is that at some point room has to be made for Beck and Demidov.

Newhook could be shopped since he doesn't seem to have a clear role on the team unlike an Evans or Armia.

That is pure nonsense, it is well known that Armia struggles with some sort of depression/anxiety issue and his confidence is fragile. He sought help last year and had a great second half and that was not a contract year.

Hot takes and hyperbolic drivel is the last thing this board needs.

He was struggling at the start of the season and has been doing much better since his BFF Laine showed up. I don’t think it has anything to do with a contract year but him being more comfortable in his role and having a friend to hang out with.

He needs his friend to produce. So if Laine is injured, he doesn't show up? Do we have a need for that type of character/player? Habs fans are satisfied with this player? We can't have better?

Not only that but we don't have the roster spot to sign him. People forget we have to improve the team. We wont improve the team by replacing Suzuki or Caufield. The bottom 6 has been better this season but ideally you want at least one good middle six guy in your lineup and none of those guys fit the description atm. If we have an injury in the top 6 we are f***ed none of those guys can elevate their game (anymore) to fill the hole. Let's say we extend Evans here's the lineup for next season :

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - Dach - Demidov
Newhook - Evans - Gallagher
Heineman - Beck/Kapanen - Anderson

There's no place for Armia and Dvorak. We have to keep looking at solutions to improve the top 6 so we have to give experience to Demidov next season and we have to keep looking for guys in the bottom 6 who can play a role in the top 6 in case of injuries. We wont improve if we are not giving a chance to our young players to play. The same will apply to at least one of Gallagher and Anderson in two years.

I agree 100%. However if you can somehow dump one of Anderson or gally, are you willing to keep Armia for cheap? The PK can't go through a complete overhaul
 
Armia is having a good year. Don't understand the complaints. He's excellent on the PK and at cycling the puck in the offensive zone with his mates. Wears the other team down. Also backchecks. I understand the hate in previous years, but he's been doing well since being sent down last year.

He's gone in my book. Replaced by younger player. Tuch? You have good team with Armia on 4th line though. Bottom 6 been driving the bus last 15 games. Same as year we got to cup Finals. Armia was good 4th line with Corey Perry.
 
Getting rid of Armia would make the PK (that has been quite good) worse.
He is also a possession and board battle beast, probably the best on the team at keeping the play in the opponent's zone on a regular basis.

I thinks he gets re-signed for two years. Evans will be let go to make space for Beck (or Kapanen).
