Player Discussion Joel Armia turnaround year?

Think you have to deal him this offseason. Can’t have Anderson, Gally and Armia all blocking youngsters, and Armia might actually be movable now.
Nope, you trade him at TDL, assuming the Habs are out of it. I think we have to see what we have in Armia next season. See if his play continues. Habs do not have cap issues. Also, they don't really have players knocking at the door other than Roy. Mesar/Beck will need a season in the AHL.

I’m really happy for Armia. He worked his ass off to have a bounce back year. My respect for him grew when he was demoted at the beginning of the season, didn’t complain, then put his head down and went to work.

Also props to him for working with a mental performance coach. That shouldn’t be understated. If only Josh Anderson would do the same…

I enjoy watching him doing interviews now...such a likeable guy.

You need to demote Anderson. This is why I am not a fan of these long term contracts. Players sit on their ass. They can't be fired and if they play bad, untradeable. Those NTCs and NMCs are icing on top. Buyout? No worries, guy gets paid 2/3rds of the remaining salary. Wish our jobs were just as secure.

12 million per for Anderson and Gallagher for THREE more seasons. Thanks Bergy.:help:

Also kudos to the management for understanding that your players are an asset and that is your responsibility to have them improve at whatever age they are . And if they have weakeness work on it .
Have you seen this management bring down the value of an asset ? Like previous one used to do in the media .
Heck even when they demoted Arber they said cause he has a much higher ceiling than just a fighter . So through negative they highlight the positive .
They get it . Finally we have elite management

I like Armia as a player when he’s on but unfortunately his hallmark is being mercurial

I don’t know what’s wrong with Anderson but he honestly doesn’t have to be much better for his contract to be worth it. He’s been injured a bit and you wonder what impact that’s had.

Hughes could have traded Anderson couple years ago but wouldn't. I think where we were so small

His team mates love him they always have. They always knew what he was capable of as did many of us fans.
I have no time for anyone slagging this player in his current state and I also have no interest in moving him at all.
Of course I've probably been saying this the longest of anyone here. "Not this Armia"

The difference between Armia and Anderson is one has hands the other doesn't. Anderson just seems like a very bad fit for Martin St. Louis hockey.
He is nowhere near as good as he thought he was and he'll never be happy playing a lesser role.

Yup.

Anderson is really bad at board battles and he attracts double coverage all the time, but his motor skills are not quick enough to execute under pressure. Much like KK.

It’s the complete opposite for Armia and a guy like Dach.

We need more players like that.

Finally got around to watch Habs-Lightning hi-lights. Loved watch Armia and his team mates reaction to his two goals, his team mates reactions said so much. Happy for him.

Like many thing around here the hate has always been disproportionate…I never think he was that bad or inconsistent he had injuries issues and he playing bottom 6 and PK, with less than avg player… The production wasn’t there and some game he wasn’t as visible but he was still never a liability.

Marian Hossa Mode engaged, Marcel Hossa Mode incoming in 3, 2,1…

Shame he’s never been able to play this way consistently
He played well when it counted. His "A" game would not have changed the outcome of most of our games since.
Perhaps he PK would have been better.

Makes me look away from the television for something fun to watch in the room. A cat usually. Don’t know if that counts as impact but it does on my own behavior.

Armia is legit fun and pulls magic move on the regular. His puck control and protection are rare.

One thing that cannot be overlooked is that Armia has also had terrible luck injury wise or health wise. When he goes hot, he gets hurt (see Myers hit in COVID shortened season). Glad he's playing good hockey.

Probably two factors here.

1) Somehow, he has remained healthy. This has been an issue throughout his career.

2) the ahl assignment probably served as a wakeup call.

Having said that, this not peak armia anymore. I'm glad for him that he's found some consistency, but he could have had a really good season if he found this consistency a bit earlier in his career.

He said a few weeks ago that he was consulting with the team sport psychologist. It seems to have went over most people in here. It's not his stint in Laval that helped him, it was consulting a specialist.
And you know this how? Therapy for sure helps, but getting demoted lights a fire. I'd love to get demoted. Get may a*s off this couch, lol.

I guarantee Anderson is seeing a sports psychologist. All of these players do. It's not there just to help underperforming players. It's an integral part of all professional sports at this point.

People have to stop with this. He wasn't going to retain on Anderson for 3 years and have no retained spots left unless it was a huge offer. It would have to be 2 1sts value. And there was no rush at that point and no reason to suspect Anderson wouldn't have at least another decent season or two. And I highly doubt even one 1st was offered.

We are also playing against teams who are either sure to make or miss the playoffs. I would not read too much into end of season performances like that. Anderson, RHP and Belzile were all outstanding at the end of last year.
