You have difficulty reading? @ruaware
Said "He and almost no one ever will be as good a playmaker as a prime Thornton."
The case was made for the future. No one claimed Marner is at or as good as a prime thorton today.
Yeah. I know. It was a joke.fixed it
Not true. Every player brings a skillset that fits differently on a team. Without a doubt, a prime Matthews vs a prime Thorton might be a viable comparison positionally but what they bring to the table are completely different. Matthews will most definitively be seen as a far superior goal scorer and Thorton a playmaker. Their values are not diminished individually because of this fact. There is more to compare talent wise between the styles of Marner and Thorton in context of what they bring to a game. I could say that there is no comparison to be made between Gauthier and Marner because one in a center and one is a forward. This is pure sophism because we can easily contrast styles and discuss what they individually bring to a game. The center vs forward argument is only used to run from an evaluation skill nuances...where there is a cross section of skills that are common. Player to player, we can always say that both Matthews and other centers like Barkov are great but when discussing what makes them great, comparisons will fail because the spectrum of skill proficiency are so different. Teams need scorers and playmakers and griders and defensive accumen. Many here will stubbornly stick to a dogma that only goal scoring counts. Specious simplistic views like this add zero to the complexity of the game. If Marner is worthless because he is a playmaker, then Thorton did as well. This is the failure of peoples conclusions as demonstrated in very simple transitive logic. It doesnt matter that Thorton is a center or not. There's no point in the comparison because one is a center and one is a winger.
Yeah and he is joining Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander & Rielly. Think about the reaction SJ would have if these guys played on their team.Thornton... It's Thornton people...
Missed having this kind of class on the Leafs. Couple of guys making as little as possible just being respectful to each other and handling the jersey situation nicely.Spezza offered up his #19 to Joe Thornton but he declined. Class acts all the way. Posted when we signed him I thought he'd go #97, I personally like it. He wore 97 when playing for Team Canada, now he'll wear it in his first time on a Canadian team.
Surprised there's still people who waste their time reading that hack lolSteve Simmons announced in his column today that Joe Thornton cannot play centre any more. So I guess that's that.
Sorry... saw it on my way to the NFL touts.Surprised there's still people who waste their time reading that hack lol
I’m not an everyday reader on HF but man this stopped being funny for me today. The main thread on Thornton signing is now saying he isn’t that vocal leader. The second anyone signs with the leafs everything flips on them and they’re negative. So dumb.
The unfortunate thing is that there is a good portion of Leafs fans who act that way as well.
Presidents Choice Memories of When They Were Good.Cool the new Leafs are like the Old Leafs. We are olding up again lol.
