Every fanbase has a segment that overrates their players.
Having said that, Guerin did say that they were "all set" on Defense in a recent presser.
Brodin- Spurgeon
Middleton - Spurgeon
Buium - Jiricek
Bogo/Spacek/Lambos
That's a good group, with a nice mix of older and young players. Having said that, Guerin might take a chance and trade one of either Spurgeon of Brodin if the return is good enough. Both are still playing very well, but are getting older... Spurgeon especially. He would be a nice add for a Cup contender with a "NOw" window that has a need for a two way RHD. That's not Buffalo.
Brodin will be 32 this summer. He still is skating and playing very well. Still one of the best defenders in the NHL. Signed for 3 more years at 6M, and has no trade protection, so could not nix a trade to BUF. I don't think he would welcome one, but probably has a good relationship with Dahlin, who would have to be energized by getting a shutdown ace like Brodin on the team. I just don't know what BUF can, or should be able to offer in return, as MN is finally in a position to compete for a Cup now that the 15M cap penalties are off. Guerin, going into his 7th year, will be under pressure to win in the playoffs, so he will want player(s) coming that will help right away, so picks and prospects are less attractive.
Sabres definitely might have to overpay a bit to get a solid defender and/or a tough, middle six forward with size.
You would know better than me whether Rossi is a need on BUF. I think he is a need on MN, but Guerin/Hynes seem to think differently, and are fine with moving their 2nd leading scorer this year.
