Reading between the lines it seems like Jiricek just didn’t fit the vision of the team going forward. Not a great outcome but it is what it is. Can’t force a kid with a crappy attitude and agent to work hard and earn his place.

That’s a bit more picks than I anticipated but I like it. Gives us a chance to potentially explore a few avenues with the newfound draft capital.

No reason we can’t package it to move up or move it for good immediate line-up help. It also gives Don a chance to use some draft capital in order to stock the pipeline the way he sees fit in the future. We got Hunt who by multiple accounts is an excellent skater so we know what he is looking for.

yeah, I remember how he went a -26 in 59 games for us.

I also remember how he had just 19 points in 89 AHL games for us to go along with a -15.

wow. berni had an accumulative -41, 22 points in 148 games within our organization. incredible.

whose numbers do those remind you of? because I know dang sure, that those numbers don’t remind you of Hunt’s career numbers in both the A and the N.

We added a piece who can either potentially be a call up if an injury or a trade (Provorov) happens and not disrupt Cleveland. Also those draft picks AT BEST likely aren't going to even be sniffing a CBJ roster spot for 18+ months. Hunt, being put into the right position, could possibly blossom as an NHLer in the next 2-10 months. While also continuing to give us extra draft capital over the next 3 years. We've potentially added to the roster this year when it wasn't likely Jiricek would at all.

What if the Jackets are on the cusp of a playoff spot come February? We now have two firsts and some extra depth picks that we can go after someone with and not effect the current roster.

Or we sell off guys like Provorov, grab some extra picks and go after someone in the off-season or continue to load up the prospect pool with lottery tickets. While creating some major competition for roster spots next season.

We just got a pretty good haul for Jiricek. He's clearly worth something. That's the best deal that a 6 or 7 team bidding war came up with.

As far as who's going to replace them, I'll be shocked if Mateychuk isn't on the squad next year for good. Still have Z, Severson, Guddy. Would love to see them hang on to Fabbro and maybe Christiansen. Then there's guys like Hunt and Svozil.

It's a mega slim chance but I would love to hang onto Provorov for a few more years too.

We had five guys who were borderline depth. They were deemed useless and given away for free.

We now have two more guys who are borderline depth. But they were somehow deemed super-valuable enough to spend much more valuable assets on to acquire them, which has apparently convinced folks that they're something other than borderline depth. Well, except that by now Harris has actually shown what he's legitimately capable of so folks have given up there now.

What's the next valuable asset we're going to trade away for more similarly "useless" borderline depth? I'm placing my bets on Voronkov.

Why? Voronkov has actually shown to be a strong NHL player already. Did Don Waddell kick your dog or something? Teams don't have to do us favors. Cats out of the bag, Jiricek can't skate and that impacted his value heavily.

I feel like you are arguing that all of these players are equal when that is clearly not the case. The CBJ clearly felt Berni, Bean, Blanks, Boqvist etc weren't gonna help the team and they subsequently cut bait and we haven't missed them at all. They obviously like Hunt as a player and feel like he can develop into a contributor. Guys like Christiansen, Danforth, Olivier, Voronkov were once "borderline depth players" who have developed into key regulars. Each player is unique

I guess I belong to the slightly more positive club, even if the return could've been better.

I liked the idea of Jiricek and his competitive spirit which he proved many times, but the player we have had for the past couple of years was not very good at the NHL level. It just started to feel like he was not going to pan out. So with that in mind, not too upsetting to send him out if the relationship was already strained. If he does pan out with the Wild, then we'll be kicking ourselves pretty hard.
