How good was he when he played? I remember he got a problem with the heart and had to stop playing which sucked. But was he ever any good? What was his style?

I think saying he was on the way to the next Chris Pronger was a bit much, but he was a good Dman.He was on the way to became the next Chris Pronger.
Was extremely great at 2004 World Cup with Zidlicky for Czechs. Also started 2005-06 season great... then it did end.

Fischer was one of those guys who had a lot of tools but couldn't seem put it all together early in his career. However he really was finding his game his last couple seasons when the heart thing happened.
Pronger is bit too much , but very good top 4 yes.He was on the way to became the next Chris Pronger.

He was turning into a great shutdown D with a little bit of offense. If the heart problem doesn’t happen then Detroit probably doesn’t trade for Brad Stuart.
This is still my favorite Fischer moment.

Best Fischer moment ever! Fun fact my fat little 14 year old ass was in those stands in Nashville screaming at all the hicks there that night. (I don't mean hicks as offensive, I have family from there.)
I remember some blurb from back in the day when teams were doing mini-skills competitions during training camp and I swear Jiri won hardest shot and fastest skater one year.Love it. Watching that, he seems slower than I remember, but then again, the NHL was a slower-paced game 20 years ago, so I suppose he wasn't slow for the time.
The other thing I thought of after my post was that perhaps that clip was around the time Jiri was battling injuries, or coming back from one? Maybe he wasn't 100% there. Either way, he was awesome that last year and half he played.I remember some blurb from back in the day when teams were doing mini-skills competitions during training camp and I swear Jiri won hardest shot and fastest skater one year.

I wish I could find that picture of him doing the crazy eyes.
I'd be pleased as Punch to have a Jiri Fischer on our current team.
